KSP 406-26D-KSP – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the KSP 406 mortise housing come with a cam?
No cam is included. The 406 is supplied less cam, so you order the cam separately to match the lock you are driving. It uses a screw-on, removable cam, which means you can swap cams later without replacing the housing.
2) What is a mortise housing for an SFIC core and why do I need one?
A small format interchangeable core is not a cylinder on its own, it has no body or cam. The KSP 406 housing is the shell the core drops into so the core can drive a mortise lock: the housing threads into the lock case, the core seats inside it, and the cam on the back of the housing throws the lock. Without a housing, an SFIC core has nothing to mount to in a mortise lock.
3) I need the core too, not just the housing. What do I order with the KSP 406?
The 406 is only the housing, it does not include a core. Pair it with a 6-pin small format interchangeable core, plus the cam for your lock. If the building is still under construction and you want to swap keying at turnover, the Corbin Russwin 8000-CT6 BLUE is a 6-pin blue construction core that gets pulled and replaced with the permanent core when the job is handed over.
4) Can I use the KSP 406 housing on a cylindrical lock or an exit device rim cylinder?
No. This is a mortise housing, meaning it threads into a mortise lock case. Rim cylinders and cylindrical locks take different SFIC hardware, a rim housing or a knob/lever core retainer. Ordering the mortise version for those openings will leave you with a part that does not mount.
5) Will a Corbin Russwin 8000-CT6 BLUE work in place of the KSP 406 mortise housing?
No - those are two different parts that work together, not alternatives. The KSP 406 Series is a 1-1/4 inch 6-pin SFIC mortise housing with a screw-on removable cam, supplied less cam; it is the shell that mortises into the door or lock body and accepts a small format interchangeable core. The Corbin Russwin 8000-CT6 BLUE is the core itself, a 6-pin interchangeable core in a blue construction core version. If you are keying an opening, you need the housing to receive the core and the core to operate it.
6) We are converting existing mortise locks to interchangeable core keying. Does this housing let us do that?
That is exactly the use case. Pull the existing conventional mortise cylinder, thread in the 406 housing with the correct cam for your lock, and drop a 6-pin SFIC core in. From then on a maintenance tech with a control key can rekey the opening in seconds without pulling the lock apart, which is why property managers and MRO groups standardize on SFIC across a building.
7) On a jobsite where the trades need temporary keying before turnover, what pairs with a 6-pin SFIC mortise housing?
A construction core such as the Corbin Russwin 8000-CT6 BLUE, a 6-pin interchangeable core in construction core form, drops into the 1-1/4 inch 6-pin SFIC mortise housing of the KSP 406 Series during the build and is pulled with a control key at turnover so the permanent core can be seated without changing the housing. Because the housing stays in the door, the same 406 shell carries both the temporary and final core, and it is offered in satin chrome, oil rubbed bronze and polished brass to match the surrounding trim.
8) Do I get a cam with the KSP 406 housing, or does the core supply it?
Neither - the KSP 406 Series 6-pin SFIC mortise housing ships less cam, with a screw-on removable cam design, so the cam is selected separately to suit the lock it is driving. A 6-pin interchangeable core like the Corbin Russwin 8000-CT6 BLUE is the keying element and does not bring the cam with it. Order the cam that matches your lock function at the same time as the housing to avoid a second trip to the opening.
