KSP 702 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the KSP 702 mortise housing cam and what does it do?
The KSP 702 is a screw-on clover cam for a mortise interchangeable core housing. The cam is the tail piece on the back of the mortise cylinder housing that turns with the key and drives the lock body. It screws onto the housing rather than being staked or pressed, so it can be removed and swapped without replacing the whole housing.
2) Do I get a cylinder or a core with the KSP 702, or just the cam?
Just the cam. The 702 is the clover cam alone, a replacement part for a mortise housing. It does not include the mortise housing, the interchangeable core, or a key. If you need the core itself, that is a separate item, for example the Corbin Russwin 8000-CT6 BLUE 6-pin interchangeable core.
3) Is a clover cam the same as a standard mortise cylinder cam?
No. Clover refers to the shape of the cam lobe, and cam shape has to match what the lock body expects. A lock built for a straight or offset cam will not be driven correctly by a clover cam and the other way round. Pull the existing cylinder and compare the cam profile before ordering the 702.
4) Can I change the cam on a mortise IC housing without pulling the lock apart?
On a screw-on housing, yes. The 702 clover cam fastens with screws at the back of the mortise housing, so you back the cylinder out of the lock case, change the cam, and thread the cylinder back in. No disassembly of the lock body is needed. That is the practical reason to keep a couple of spare cams on the truck instead of spare housings.
5) I am standardizing an interchangeable core system across a building. Where does a part like the KSP 702 cam fit in?
Cams are the piece that lets one core platform serve different lock bodies. The cores stay common across the facility, and the mortise housing gets whichever cam matches the lock it is going into. Stocking the 702 clover cam alongside your cores means a mortise opening that needs a clover drive can be brought onto the same keying system without changing the lock.
