Kwikset 300P-15-CP – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Kwikset 300P Polo privacy knob use a key?
No key. The Polo 300P is a privacy set, so it locks from the inside only, with an emergency unlocking feature on the outside for a bedroom or bathroom door. If you need a keyed entry knob for an exterior or office door, this is the wrong function.
2) What latch and strike come in the box with the Kwikset Polo 300P?
The set ships with a 6AL adjustable latch and an RCS round corner strike, so you have the door and frame hardware in one package. No separate latch purchase is needed for a standard bored door prep.
3) Will the Polo privacy knob fit my existing door prep with a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset?
The 6AL latch supplied with the Polo 300P is adjustable, so it covers both of the standard bored-door backsets rather than locking you into one. That is what lets it drop into an existing knob prep on most interior doors without redrilling.
4) My door frames have square corner mortises for the strike plate. Is this the right set?
Not as supplied. The Polo 300P comes with a round corner strike (RCS), which matches frames routed with radius corners. On a square-corner mortise a round corner plate leaves a gap at each corner, so you would either chisel the corners square or source a square corner strike instead.
5) Can I use the Kwikset Polo privacy knob in an apartment building or hotel rather than a house?
Yes, the Polo 300P is catalogued for commercial use as well as residential, and privacy knobs are standard on multi-family bedroom and bathroom doors. For guest room corridor doors or anything needing keyed control, you want a keyed entry or mortise function instead.
6) Is the Kwikset Polo knob handed, or does it work on both left and right doors?
Knob sets of this type are non-handed. The Polo 300P uses a round knob on both sides with the adjustable 6AL latch, so the same set works on a left or right hand door with no reversing step.
7) Will the Polo 300P match other Kwikset Polo hardware already on my doors?
It is part of Kwikset's Polo collection, so the round knob profile and rose match other Polo trim. If some openings need keyed entry or passage and others need privacy, ordering within the Polo line keeps the look consistent down the corridor.
