Kwikset 83846 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" ASA Plainlatch and Deadlatch Strike

Both. The 83846 is made for plain latch and deadlatch use, and it works with UL Kwikset Signatures and UL Kwikset locks and latchbolts. That matters on a deadlatch: the strike lip has to let the auxiliary plunger ride up onto the face of the strike rather than dropping into the pocket with the main latch, or the anti-shim function stops working.

Square corner. That is the common prep on hollow metal commercial frames. If your existing strike has rounded corners, it came out of a radius prep and a square plate will leave gaps at the corners, so you want a radius version instead.

Four finishes: satin nickel, satin chrome, antique nickel, and dark bronze/black. For a building standardized on brushed chrome-look hardware, satin nickel or satin chrome are the matches; dark bronze/black pairs with oil-rubbed bronze and matte black lever sets.

It is a commercial-duty strike. The ASA-1 format itself is the commercial standard, so this is what goes on a hollow metal frame in an apartment corridor, office, or school rather than on a residential wood jamb, where a smaller T-strike is typical.

Only with work. At 4-7/8 by 1-1/4 inches this is a full ASA plate sized for a metal frame prep, and a wood jamb almost never comes cut that way, so you would be routing the jamb for the plate and mortising a deep pocket behind it. For a wood jamb replacement, a full-lip T-strike sized to the existing mortise is the easier fit.

The 83846 is specified for Kwikset plain latch and deadlatch hardware, including UL Kwikset Signatures locks and latchbolts. Whether a different manufacturer's latchbolt lines up comes down to the lip length and the pocket depth on your particular frame, so if you are replacing a strike under a non-Kwikset lock, match the plate you pulled out rather than assuming this one seats the same.
