Kwikset 966LRLRDTRH-26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Kwikset 966LRL Ladera interior pack work on its own, or do I need the exterior handleset too?
On its own it does nothing. The 966LRL Ladera lever is a non-functioning interior trim pack, so you have to buy a matching Kwikset exterior handleset pack to have a working entry set. Keys come with the exterior pack, not this one.
2) What is the closest equivalent to the Kwikset 966LRL Ladera interior pack if the door already has a Schlage handleset on the outside?
The Schlage Residential JH59 Broadway lever inside trim for handleset with Collins deadbolt thumbturn is the direct counterpart. Like the 966LRL Ladera pack, it is an interior lever trim with a deadbolt thumbturn for an entrance handleset and it is ANSI/BHMA Grade 3. The JH59 is part of Schlage's J Series and fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick. The Kwikset 966LRL is built to mate with Kwikset Series 687 and 800 handlesets, so keep the interior pack in the same family as the exterior handleset.
3) I need interior handleset trim for a 2 inch thick door - the Kwikset 966LRL won't work, what should I use?
Look at the Weslock options built for thicker doors. The Weslock 2100 Julienne interior single cylinder handleset trim is an entry-function interior trim from the Traditionale series rated for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch thick, and the Weslock 7900 Carlow interior single cylinder handleset trim covers the same 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch range for Greystone or Rockford handlesets. Schlage's FC59 Alexandria interior trim pack with deadbolt thumbturn spans 1-5/8 inch to 2-3/4 inch, though it is a glass knob rather than a lever.
4) Do I need to order a left hand or right hand version of the Ladera interior pack?
Order the handing you need, but the trim itself is fully reversible for right and left hand doors. Both Left Hand (LH) and Right Hand (RH) are offered across every finish.
5) How does the deadbolt lock from inside on the Kwikset 966LRL pack?
Interior side is a turn piece, and the deadbolt is keyed one side only, so the key works the outside and the thumbturn works the inside. That is the standard single-cylinder entry arrangement for a residential front door.
6) Is the Kwikset 966LRL Ladera pack rated for commercial or residential use?
Residential. It carries an ANSI/BHMA Grade 3 certification, which is the residential tier. For an apartment corridor or a light commercial entry you want a Grade 2 or Grade 1 lock instead.
7) Which interior handleset trims look like the Kwikset 966LRL but are dummy only?
Several trims share the look but not the locking function. The Schlage F59 Accent lever interior pack and the Weslock 6205 Utica Woodward interior handleset trim are both dummy function, as is the Weslock 1405 interconnected handleset dummy interior trim. The Kwikset 966LRL Ladera pack is an entrance trim whose deadbolt is operated by a turn piece on the interior, so a dummy trim will not throw the bolt from inside.
8) What finishes and rose shapes can I get the Ladera interior pack in?
Five finishes: Satin Nickel (619), Polished Chrome (625), Satin Chrome (626), Venetian Bronze (510) and Matte Black (622). Each one comes with either a round or a square rose, so you can match the lever escutcheon to the rest of the door hardware in the house.
9) What tools do I need to install a Kwikset 966 interior handleset pack?
A screwdriver. The interior trim mounts through the existing handleset prep and goes on in minutes, no boring or special tooling, which is why property managers use these to refresh the inside face of a door without touching the exterior hardware.
10) The Kwikset 966LRL Ladera pack has to be ordered by hand - is there an interior trim that is not handed?
The Kwikset 966LRL Ladera pack is ordered as Left Hand or Right Hand across its finish and rose options. Weslock's 7900 Carlow interior single cylinder handleset trim is likewise handed and is supplied as a left hand unit. If handing is a concern for a stocked spare, the dummy trims are the simpler buy: the Weslock 6205 Utica Woodward covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors and the Schlage F59 Accent lever interior pack is an F Series dummy for 1-5/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors.
11) Is the Ladera lever a traditional or modern look?
Contemporary. The Ladera lever is a clean, squared-off modern shape, and the round or square rose lets you lean either way. If your openings are traditional, the Weslock Utica Woodward interior trim from the Molten Bronze series is a period-style alternative.
