Kwikset 968MILRDT – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kwikset Milan 968MILRDT lever a working latch or a dummy?
It is a dummy lever, meaning non-functioning trim. The lever does not retract a latch. Locking on the assembly is handled by the turn piece on the interior of the lock, and the lever is there as the inside grip for a Kwikset handleset.
2) Does this Kwikset interior trim meet ADA requirements for lever operation?
Yes. The Milan lever interior pack meets ADA/ANSI A117.1 requirements and is ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 certified. Note it is classed as residential hardware, so for a commercial opening that calls for Grade 1 you want a different device.
3) Can I use the 968MILRDT with any Kwikset handleset exterior?
It is built for installation with Kwikset handlesets, so pair it with a Kwikset exterior pack. It is part of the Kwikset Signature Series Milan collection with a round rose, so if you want the inside trim to match a specific exterior, check the collection and rose shape on the exterior pack you pick.
4) Will the Milan interior dummy lever work on a left hand door?
Yes, either hand. The Milan interior pack is fully reversible, so the same part serves right and left handed doors without ordering a handed version. Nothing to specify on the order form.
5) I have a knob handleset interior now, can I switch to a lever with this part?
Yes, if the opening uses a Kwikset handleset. The 968MILRDT gives you a lever handle on a round rose as the inside trim, which is the usual move when you need lever operation for accessibility. It is dummy trim, so the locking still comes from the turn piece on the interior of the lock, not the lever.
6) What tools do I need to install the Milan interior dummy trim?
A screwdriver. The interior pack mounts with screws only, no drilling or special tooling, which is why it is a quick swap when a property manager is refreshing the inside trim on existing Kwikset handlesets.
