Not cleanly. The 85279 is a round corner plate, so on a square-corner mortise you will see gaps at the four corners and the screws may not land where the old ones did. For a square-corner jamb, the Emtek 83223 standard deadbolt strike plate is made with square corners. Round corner preps are what most routed residential jambs have, since the router bit leaves a radius.

The Kwikset 85279 is a 1-1/8 inch by 2-3/4 inch round corner deadbolt strike in steel. When the door jamb is already mortised with square corners, the Emtek 83223 standard deadbolt strike plate is cut with square corners and serves the same deadbolt strike function. Corner style has to match the existing mortise pocket, or the prep has to be recut with a chisel to suit the new plate.

The 85279 is a residential-duty strike. For a leased unit door or a light interior application in a multi-family building it will do the job, but for a commercial opening on a schedule, spec a commercial strike rather than this one. It is also a deadbolt strike specifically, so it takes the bolt, not a latch.

A deadbolt strike has a plain rectangular opening because a deadbolt is a square-ended bolt thrown by the turn or key, with no bevel and no spring. A latch strike has a curved lip that the beveled latch rides across as the door closes. Put a latch strike behind a deadbolt and the lip does nothing useful; put a deadbolt strike behind a spring latch and the door will not close. The 85279 is the deadbolt version.

Four finishes: Bright Brass, Satin Nickel, Dark Bronze/Black, and Polished Chrome. If you are keeping a building consistent, match the strike to the deadbolt trim on the exterior side, since the strike is the piece that shows in the jamb when the door stands open. Satin Nickel and Dark Bronze/Black cover most current residential trim.
