LCN 3133-693 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the LCN 3133 concealed closer fit my door, and what size door will it handle?
The 3133 mounts inside the door itself, so the door has to be 1-3/4 inches thick and it is rated for interior doors up to 4'0" wide. It is a size 3 closer, non-adjustable spring size, so a wider or heavier opening than 4'0" is outside what it is built for. Exterior openings are out too, it is specified as an interior door closer.
2) Is the LCN 3133 ADA compliant for reduced opening force?
No. The 3133 is not ADA compliant. It is a fixed size 3 closer, and a barrier-free opening usually needs a closer that can be adjusted down to a lower opening force. If the opening falls under an accessibility requirement, this is the wrong closer for it.
3) Do I have to specify handing when I order an LCN 3133?
Yes, handing is a required selection, left hand or right hand. Because the closer body sits concealed inside the door and the arm engages a track in the frame, the unit is built for one swing direction. Stand outside the opening on the side the door swings away from you: hinges on your left is left hand, hinges on your right is right hand. Get it wrong and the unit will not work in the prep.
4) What track options are there on the LCN 3133 and which one do I need for a door I want to hold open?
Four tracks are offered: standard track (STDTRACK), hold-open track (H), track with bumper (BUMP), and hold-open track with bumper (HBMP). If you want the door to stay open at a set point, take the H or HBMP track. The bumper versions stop the door at the end of the track instead of letting it hit a wall or adjacent hardware, which is the one to pick in a tight corridor or a room where there is no wall stop. Standard track just closes the door every time.
5) Should I use a concealed-in-door closer like the 3133 or a surface mounted closer?
The 3133 hides everything inside the door leaf, with only the arm and track visible at the frame head, so it is the choice where appearance matters or where a surface closer would be a vandalism or tamper target. The trade is prep: the door has to be morticed for the closer body and the frame has to take the track, so it is far easier to specify on a new door than to retrofit an existing one. A surface closer bolts to a door face with no machining and is the practical answer on doors already hung. Adjustment is not a differentiator here, the 3133 has independently adjustable closing and latching speed at tamper-resistant regulating screws.
6) Is the LCN 3133 approved for a federal or government job with domestic sourcing requirements?
The 3133 is BAA Qualified, which is what a federal, GSA, or federally funded project will ask for on the submittal. It is also UL/cUL listed for self-closing applications and meets ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1, so it carries the highest ANSI grade for door closers.
7) Does the LCN 3133 come with the arm and track, or do I order those separately?
The standard single lever arm with roller assembly (STDTRKARM) ships as the default arm, and the track is a required selection made with the closer, so you order the closer, the track type, and the handing together as one unit. Wood and machine screws are included, which covers both a wood door and a hollow metal one.
8) Does the LCN 3133 have delayed action for a healthcare or accessible opening?
No delay function on the 3133. If you need the door to hang open for a few extra seconds so someone with a cart or a wheelchair can clear it, look at a closer that lists delayed action, this one closes on the standard sweep and latch cycle only.
9) Will an LCN 3133 hold up in an office building or school corridor, or do I need something heavier?
Medium duty is what the 3133 is rated for, and its cast iron cylinder runs a 1-1/8 inch forged steel piston on a full-complement bearing. That suits office suites, classrooms, patient rooms, and multi-tenant corridors on 1-3/4 inch interior doors up to 4'0". A high-abuse entrance taking constant public traffic, or any door wider or heavier than that, needs a larger closer instead.
10) What finishes does the LCN 3133 come in, and will the exposed parts match my other door hardware?
Six powder coat finishes: 689 aluminum, 690 statuary bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 gloss black, 695 dark bronze, and 696 brass. Only the arm and track show once the door is hung, so on a fleet of doors you are matching those two pieces to the frame or the rest of the trim, not the whole closer. 689 is the usual pick against aluminum or painted frames, 695 against dark bronze storefront.
11) Will an LCN 3133 keep closing properly in an unconditioned space or through winter?
All-weather fluid is used in the 3133, so closing speed holds steady as temperature swings rather than slowing in the cold and racing in the heat. That matters on interior doors in unheated stairwells, garages, and vestibules where the door still has to latch every time. It is still specified as an interior door closer, so it is the space behind the door being unconditioned, not the closer being exposed outside.

We purchased a few of these. They are great for new doors that can be prepped or if your team knows how to do the prep onsite.
