LCN 4000T-72 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the LCN 4000T-72 cover actually do on a 4000T Series closer?
The 4000T-72 is a plastic cover that snaps over the closer body on LCN 4000T Series track closers, hiding the mechanism and shielding it from knocks and environmental exposure. It is an accessory, not a closer: it contains no spring, no valves, and no arm, so it does not change closing speed, latch speed, or spring power. If a closer body is being replaced, the cover is ordered alongside it.
2) Will the LCN 4000T-72 cover fit an LCN 4040 or other non-track closer?
No. The 4000T-72 is built for 4000T Series closers in the standard track configuration. Regular arm closers like the 4040XP use a different body profile and take their own cover, so the 4000T-72 will not seat correctly on them. Confirm the closer body is a 4000T track unit before ordering this cover.
3) Do I need to order a left-hand and right-hand version of the 4000T-72 cover?
No, one part covers both. The 4000T-72 is non-handed, so the same cover works on left-hand and right-hand openings. For a property manager stocking spares across a building, that means a single part number on the shelf regardless of door swing.
4) My building's 4000T closer covers are broken or missing. Can I just buy the cover instead of the whole closer?
Yes, the cover is sold on its own as part number 4000T-72. A broken or missing plastic cover on a 4000T track closer is a cover replacement, not a closer replacement, provided the closer body and track are still operating properly. Order the finish to match the rest of the openings so the run of doors stays consistent.
5) What finishes does the LCN 4000T-72 closer cover come in?
Six: 689 aluminum, 690 statuary bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 gloss black, 695 dark bronze, and 696 brass. Those are the standard LCN finish numbers, so matching the cover to closers already installed on other openings is a matter of reading the finish code off the existing unit and ordering the same number.
6) Does replacing a cracked cover on a 4000T track closer affect ADA compliance of the opening?
No. The 4000T-72 is listed as ADA compliant, and the cover is not part of the operating mechanism, so fitting one does not change opening force or closing speed. ADA opening force on the door is set by the closer's spring size and adjustment, not by the cover.
7) Is the 4000T-72 cover suitable for a commercial building, or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The 4000T-72 is catalogued for commercial door control use, and it is the cover LCN specifies for 4000T track closers in offices, schools, hospitals, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential buildings, and government facilities. There is no separate light-duty residential version of this cover.
