The 4110-18 drop plate is for push side (parallel arm) mounting where the top rail is less than 5-1/8 inches (130 mm) measured from the stop. Above that, the closer body mounts straight to the rail and no plate is needed. Below it, the plate drops the closer down so the shoe and arm still land on usable rail.
2) What is the minimum top rail I can still use the LCN 4110 drop plate on?
Two inches (51 mm) of top rail clearance is the floor. If the rail measures less than that, the drop plate will not give you a mounting surface and you need a different mounting approach, such as a bracket or a closer mounted on the frame soffit rather than the door.
3) Is the 4110-18 the door closer itself or just the mounting hardware?
It is only the drop plate, a flat mounting plate that relocates a door closer body lower on the door. You order the closer separately. The plate solves a top rail clearance problem, it does not provide any closing function on its own.
4) I have a narrow top rail on an aluminum storefront door, will this drop plate solve it?
Only if you have at least 2 inches (51 mm) of rail to work with and you are mounting on the push side. The plate is the answer for a rail under 5-1/8 inches (130 mm) from the stop. 6) Does using an LCN drop plate on a push side closer affect ADA compliance?
No. The 4110-18 is ADA compliant when installed correctly, so relocating the closer with the plate does not by itself put the opening out of compliance. Opening force and closing speed still come down to how the closer is adjusted, not the plate.
7) Will the 4110-18 drop plate work with a pull side or regular arm closer installation?
It is a parallel arm drop plate, so it is intended for push side mounting. A pull side (regular arm) installation with a short top rail is a different problem and takes a different mounting solution, not this plate.
