1) Does the LCN 4631 mount on the push side or the pull side of the door?
Pull side only. The 4631 is a surface, top jamb mount on the pull side, so the header above the door has to be clear for the unit and the arm has to swing on the pull face. If your only clear mounting face is the push side, you need a push-side operator instead, not this one.
2) Is the LCN 4631 handed, or do I order one unit for both left and right doors?
One part number covers both hands. The 4631 is non-handed, so you don't specify left or right when ordering and a facility stocking spares only needs the one unit for either swing. What you do specify is the finish and whether you want the concealed on/off switch.
3) Does the LCN 4631 meet ADA requirements for an accessible entrance?
Yes, in power mode the 4631 meets the Americans with Disabilities Act and ANSI A117.1 requirements, and it complies with ANSI/BHMA 156.19, the standard written for low energy power operated doors. It's UL and cUL listed. For a government job, it's also BAA qualified.
4) What is the difference between the standard LCN 4631 and the CS version?
It comes down to the switch on the cover. The default build gives you a visible on/off switch plus a hold open switch, so staff can put the door in hold open for a delivery or a move-in. The CS build hides the on/off switch and drops the hold open switch entirely, which is what you want in a school corridor or a lobby where you don't want the public toggling the operator. Both are offered in all seven plated finishes.
5) Do I need guide rails or safety mats to install the LCN 4631?
No. The 4631 installs without guard rails or safety mats, with plug and play connections and mounting. That keeps the install to the operator, the header, and the 120V feed rather than a floor sensor package. You do need a 120V supply run to the head of the opening.
6) What finishes does the LCN 4631 plated operator come in?
Seven plated finishes, applied to the cover, arm, and fasteners: 616 satin bronze blackened, 632 bright brass, 633 satin brass, 639 satin bronze, 646 satin nickel, 651 bright chrome, and 652 satin chrome. If you're matching existing hardware across a lobby, 626 satin chrome equivalents on locks and exit devices pair with 652 here; the plated range is the one to pick from when a painted aluminum cover won't match the rest of the opening.
7) How far will the LCN 4631 open the door, and can it be set to hold open?
Door opening is rated to 180 degrees, and hold open is a feature of the operator. On the default build the hold open is a switch on the cover; order the CS version and that switch is not there. Check the actual swing clearance at your opening before assuming the full 180, since a wall return or an adjacent door often limits it well short of that.
8) Does the LCN 4631 still close the door properly if the power goes out?
It's an Auto Equalizer, meaning the closing side is electrohydraulic closer mechanism, so the door still closes under spring and hydraulic control with the power off. Closer sizes 1 through 4 are covered by the one unit, so the closing force can be set to the door and the wind conditions at that opening rather than being fixed. All-weather fluid keeps that adjustment stable in cold.
9) Is the LCN 4631 a low energy operator or a full power automatic door?
Low energy. The 4631 complies with ANSI/BHMA 156.19, which is the low energy standard, meaning the door opens slowly enough on a knowing act, a push plate or wave switch, that it doesn't require the sensor and guard rail package a full power ANSI/BHMA 156.10 automatic entrance does. For an accessible side entrance, a restroom, or a corridor door, low energy is the right choice. A high traffic main entrance moving crowds is where you'd look at a full power automatic instead.
