1) Does the LCN 5016 closer mount in the door or in the frame?
In the frame. The 5016 cylinder is concealed in the head frame with only the double lever arm exposed at the door. That means the frame has to be prepped and deep enough to take the cylinder, which is normally decided at frame order, not after the fact. If your frame isn't prepped for a concealed closer, you want a surface mounted closer instead.
2) Do I have to specify handing when ordering the LCN 5016?
Yes, handing is required. The 5016 is a handed closer, ordered right hand or left hand, so you need to know which way the door swings before you order. Get it wrong and the arm geometry won't work on the opening.
3) What spring size does the LCN 5016 come in, and can it be adjusted for a lighter door?
The 5016 is listed at closer size 6, and the 5010 Series is offered across spring sizes 1 through 6. Size 6 is the heavy end, matched to the widest doors and exterior openings with wind load.
