SEM 7800 Series Magnets

The Sentronic 7800 Series magnet releases when the fire alarm panel enters an alarm condition and the electrical current is interrupted, allowing the Door to perform manually until Power returns. The tri-voltage design provides 35 pounds of holding force. The magnet is fail-safe and will hold the Door until the current is interrupted. The SEM 7800 Series is protected by a 2-year warranty, meets ANSI/BHMA 156.15 and is UL Listed for metal smoke barrier or labeled fire doors. All magnets in the Series feature die-cast housings and are available in aluminum and dark bronze finishes. The SEM 7820 is floor-mounted, the SEM 7830 is surface wall-mounted, the SEM 7840 is low-profile recessed wall-mounted and the SEM 7850 is standard-profile recessed wall-mounted. All magnets but the SEM 7820 are suitable for pocket Door installation.

LCN LCN-SEM7820 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the LCN SEM7820 floor-mounted door holding magnet used for?
The SEM7820 is designed to hold heavy commercial doors in the open position. It mounts flush in the floor and uses electromagnetic force to secure doors when activated. Common applications include hospitals, schools, offices, and retail spaces where fire safety requires automatic door release capability.
2) What door weights and sizes is this magnet compatible with?
This heavy-duty model typically handles commercial-grade doors up to 200+ pounds. Verify your specific door weight and dimensions against manufacturer specifications. Door material should be ferrous metal or have a steel plate installed for proper magnetic contact.
3) Does this magnet work with both left and right-hand doors?
Floor-mounted magnets are typically universal for door handing. The magnet installs in the floor at the desired hold-open position regardless of door swing direction. Verify the door's hold-open angle and positioning during planning.
4) What finish options are available for the SEM7820?
LCN typically offers standard finishes like aluminum, bronze, and stainless steel for floor-mounted units. The visible portion should match your door hardware finish. Check current availability for specific finish codes and lead times.
5) What voltage does this electromagnetic door holder require?
Most LCN electromagnetic holders operate on 12V or 24V DC power. Verify the exact voltage requirement for your model. A transformer may be needed to step down from line voltage. Power consumption is typically low during normal holding operation.
6) Does this magnet meet fire safety code requirements?
LCN electromagnetic holders are designed to integrate with fire alarm systems for automatic release. When power is cut during a fire alarm, the magnet releases the door for automatic closure. Verify local code compliance and integration requirements with your fire safety system.
7) What installation accessories come with the SEM7820?
Standard packages typically include the magnet housing, mounting hardware, and basic wiring connections. You may need to purchase door-mounted strike plates or armature plates separately. Review the complete parts list and order missing components before installation.
8) How is the floor-mounted magnet installed?
Installation requires cutting a precise recess in the floor to accommodate the housing. The unit sits flush with the floor surface. Electrical connections must be made to the control circuit. Use the manufacturer's template for accurate positioning and dimensions. Professional installation recommended.
9) What maintenance does this electromagnetic holder need?
Keep the magnet face clean and free of debris. Test the release function monthly by removing power. Check that doors fully close when the magnet releases. Inspect wiring connections periodically. Replace any damaged armature plates on the door bottom.
10) Are there similar LCN models I should consider?
LCN offers various electromagnetic holders including wall-mounted and overhead models. Consider door weight, mounting constraints, and aesthetic preferences when selecting. Browse our door hardware section for alternative mounting configurations.
11) Can this magnet be used in outdoor or wet conditions?
Floor-mounted units have limited weather resistance due to their installation method. Exterior applications require proper drainage and weatherproofing. Consider moisture ingress and freeze-thaw cycles that could affect performance. Consult manufacturer specifications for environmental ratings.
12) What are the key measurements I need before ordering?
Measure door weight, floor thickness, and available space for the housing recess. Note the door's hold-open angle and the distance from hinge to magnet contact point. Verify electrical access for wiring. Check floor construction material for compatibility with cutting and mounting.
