Leviton 2420 Industrial Grade Locking Receptacle, Flush Mount, Impact- and Chemical-Resistant

The Leviton 2420 is an industrial grade, flush mount locking receptacle engineered for demanding electrical environments where reliability cannot be compromised. Built to resist impact and chemical exposure, this locking receptacle is designed for applications where standard devices fall short. Its flush mount profile allows for a clean, low-profile installation while the locking configuration helps prevent accidental disconnection in high-vibration or high-traffic settings. Electrical contractors and facility maintenance teams specify the Leviton 2420 when industrial-grade toughness and dependable locking retention are non-negotiable requirements.

Key Features

  • Industrial Grade Construction: Built to Leviton's industrial grade standard for durability in demanding commercial and industrial settings.
  • Flush Mount Design: Low-profile flush mounting installs cleanly into enclosures and equipment without protruding hardware.
  • Locking Configuration: Twist-locking design helps secure the connection and resist accidental disconnects in high-vibration environments.
  • Impact-Resistant: Housing is engineered to withstand impact common in industrial and heavy-use environments.
  • Chemical-Resistant: Constructed to resist chemical exposure, making it suitable for industrial and processing environments where corrosive agents are present.

Leviton 2420 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Leviton 2420 industrial grade or just commercial grade?
Industrial grade. That's the top tier for wiring devices and it matters on a spec sheet that calls for industrial grade receptacles. Both of the Eaton locking receptacles we carry alongside it, the L1-15 and the L14-20, are listed as commercial grade, so if the drawing specifically says industrial, the 2420 is the one that meets it.
2) I need a generator inlet for 120/240V single phase, is the Leviton 2420 right?
No. The 2420 is an L15-20R, a 3-phase configuration with no neutral, so it will not carry 120/240V single-phase four-wire loads. For that pattern you want an L14 device, such as the Eaton L14-20 industrial locking receptacle in black nylon. The two patterns look similar on the shelf and will not mate.
3) Can I use the Eaton NEMA L1-15 locking receptacle in place of the Leviton 2420?
No. The Eaton device is a NEMA L1-15 configuration, a two-wire 125V locking pattern rated for 15A service, while the Leviton 2420 is NEMA L15-20R at 20A, 250V. The blade patterns differ, so the two will not accept the same plug, and the Eaton is a commercial grade device against the Leviton's industrial grade. Use the Eaton only where the equipment cord is actually an L1-15 cap.
4) What is the difference between the Leviton 2420 and the Eaton L14-20 locking receptacle?
They are different NEMA configurations and are not interchangeable. The Leviton 2420 is a NEMA L15-20R rated 20A at 250V, which is a three-pole, three-phase locking configuration with no neutral. The Eaton L14-20 locking receptacle is an L14-20 configuration, which is a single-phase 125/250V pattern with a neutral. A plug wired for one will not mate with the other, so match the configuration stamped on the cord cap before ordering. The Eaton is listed as commercial grade and in black nylon; the Leviton 2420 is industrial grade and black.
5) Is the Leviton 2420 a flush mount or does it need a flanged box?
Flush mount. The 2420 sits into a box or enclosure face with no protruding housing, so it's the one you want for panelboard fronts, equipment faces, and wall boxes. If you need a receptacle that mounts on the outside of an enclosure with a gasketed flange, that's a different style, for example the Bryant 71020ER 7 Series flanged locking receptacle.
6) Will a Leviton 2420 work in a plant with washdown chemicals or solvents in the air?
The 2420 housing is built to resist both impact and chemical exposure, which is why it gets specified in processing areas and manufacturing floors where standard nylon devices get attacked. It is not a weatherproof assembly on its own though, so if the location is wet or subject to direct spray, pair it with an appropriate while-in-use or weatherproof cover.
7) Does a twist-lock receptacle like the Leviton 2420 actually stop cords pulling out on vibrating equipment?
That's the whole point of the locking pattern. The plug inserts and rotates so the blades seat behind the contact shoulders, which holds the connection against vibration and cord tug in a way a straight-blade receptacle does not. It's the reason the 2420 gets used on heavy equipment power drops and high-traffic floors where an accidental disconnect means downtime.
8) I need a surface or flanged locking receptacle instead of a flush mount - what should I look at?
The Leviton 2420 is a flush mount device, designed to drop into an enclosure or equipment face without protruding hardware. Where the outlet has to be mounted on the face of a box, machine housing, or column, the Bryant 71020ER 7 Series flanged locking receptacle is the flanged-body style for that kind of mounting. Confirm the NEMA configuration you need before ordering either one, since the 2420 is an L15-20R pattern.
9) Is a commercial grade locking receptacle good enough, or do I need the industrial grade Leviton 2420?
It depends on the environment. The Leviton 2420 is built to Leviton's industrial grade standard with an impact- and chemical-resistant housing, which is what plant maintenance teams specify for processing areas, high-vibration equipment connections, and locations exposed to corrosive agents. Commercial grade locking devices such as the Eaton L14-20 and the Eaton L1-15 receptacle are the lighter-duty tier and are typically fine for light commercial and general-purpose outlets. For a clean office or back-of-house drop the commercial grade device is a normal choice; for a machine feed on a production floor, buyers generally hold to the industrial grade.
10) Where can I get the full technical data on the Leviton 2420?
Leviton publishes a technical information sheet for the 2420 that we host on the product record. The headline numbers you need for takeoff are on the device itself: 20A, 250V, NEMA L15-20R, industrial grade, black.
