Leviton 688-I Ivory Clock Hanger Receptacle

The Leviton 688-I is a purpose-built clock hanger receptacle finished in ivory, designed to provide a dedicated, low-profile electrical connection point for wall-mounted clocks and similar fixtures. This device combines the function of a standard convenience outlet with an integrated hanger, allowing a clock to be securely mounted directly over the receptacle so that its power cord stays hidden behind the fixture for a clean, finished appearance. The ivory finish is a popular neutral choice that blends easily with most wall colors and trim packages found in residential and light commercial settings. As a Leviton product, the 688-I is manufactured to the electrical industry standards professionals and homeowners expect from one of the most recognized names in wiring devices.

Key Features

  • Dedicated Clock Hanger Design: Integrates a mounting hanger with a standard receptacle so a wall clock can be hung directly over its power connection, eliminating visible cords and providing a neat, professional installation.
  • Ivory Finish: A classic, versatile ivory color coordinates with common wall and trim finishes in residential and commercial spaces.
  • Leviton Build Quality: Manufactured by Leviton, a leading name in electrical wiring devices, giving installers and homeowners confidence in the device's fit, finish, and reliable function.
  • Space-Saving Functionality: Combines a receptacle and mounting point in a single device, reducing the need for separate hardware when installing a wall clock near an outlet location.
  • Simple Replacement or New Install: Suitable for both new construction wiring and as a direct replacement for an existing clock hanger receptacle that has become worn, damaged, or mismatched in color.

Leviton 688-I – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is a clock hanger receptacle, and why would I use the Leviton 688-I instead of a standard outlet?
A clock hanger receptacle is an outlet with a hanger built into the device, so a wall clock hangs on the receptacle itself and plugs in behind the fixture. The Leviton 688-I does that in one device: the clock covers the outlet and the cord stays hidden, instead of running down the wall from a standard duplex outlet. If you want the clock hung on a separate anchor and the cord visible, a standard receptacle is all you need; the 688-I exists for the cord-free look.
2) Can the Leviton 688-I replace an existing clock hanger receptacle, or is it only for new wiring?
Both. The 688-I is sold for new construction rough-in and as a straight swap for a clock hanger receptacle that is worn, damaged, or the wrong color for the room. If you are replacing a white or discolored unit and the rest of the devices in the space are ivory, this is the matching color.
3) What part number do I order for the ivory Leviton clock hanger receptacle?
Leviton 688-I. The I suffix is the ivory finish, and it is the only configuration offered under this model, so there is nothing further to specify on the order.
4) What color is the Leviton 688-I clock hanger receptacle?
Ivory. It is the neutral that matches most older residential and light commercial device and trim packages, so it blends with existing ivory switches, outlets and plates rather than standing out the way a white device would on an ivory wall.
5) Will the Leviton 688-I work for a wall clock in a commercial corridor or classroom?
It is sold for residential and light commercial wall clock installations, which covers offices, dining areas, and similar interior spaces. For heavier institutional specification work, confirm the device meets whatever grade your facility standard calls for before standardizing on it across a building.
