Leviton 80725-I – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Leviton 80725 blank wallplate cover a two-gang box with no devices in it?
That is exactly what it is for. The 80725 is a 2-gang blank plate with no device cutouts, so it covers two adjacent openings on a capped, inactive, or future-use box with one unified plate. Common uses are capping wiring during a renovation, protecting a box left for future use, and covering a decommissioned device.
2) Does this Leviton blank plate screw to the electrical box or to a device?
It is a box-mount plate. It fastens directly to the electrical box itself rather than to a yoke or strap, which is why it works on a box with nothing installed in it. No extra mounting hardware is called for beyond that box-mount configuration.
3) Can I paint a Leviton nylon blank wallplate to match the wall?
Yes. The nylon surface takes paint, so on a corridor or unit wall where an ivory plate would stand out you can shoot it the wall color. Nylon also resists cracking, warping, and discoloration, which is why it holds up better than a brittle plate in a high-traffic space.
4) Can I use two single-gang blanks instead of this 2-gang Leviton plate?
Not on a single two-gang box. A two-gang box has one opening pattern with two device positions, and the 80725 spans both with a single plate. Two single-gang blanks would only apply if you actually have two separate single-gang boxes in the wall.
5) Nylon or steel blank wallplate for a commercial box, which should I use?
Nylon, like this Leviton 2-gang blank, is the choice where you want a finished residential or light commercial look and the option to paint it. It is impact resistant and light. Where you need a metal plate for a specific mechanical or grounding requirement in an industrial area, a nylon plate is not the substitute. For offices, apartments, corridors, and maintenance work, the nylon blank does the job.
