Leviton CR020-2PI – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Leviton CR020-2PI accept both 15-amp and 20-amp plugs?
Yes. The CR020-2PI is a NEMA 5-20R straight blade duplex, so it takes standard 15A parallel-blade cords as well as 20A plugs with the T-shaped neutral blade. That is why 5-20R devices get specified for copiers, floor buffers, kitchen counters and shop benches where a 20A cord may show up.
2) Can I use a standard toggle wallplate on the Leviton CR020-2PI Decora Plus receptacle?
No. The CR020-2PI is a Decora Plus device, so it needs a Decora/decorator style wallplate with the large rectangular opening. A duplex plate with two round cutouts will not fit over it. If the rest of the openings in the space are standard duplex, plan on changing those plates or the wall will look mismatched.
3) Is the Leviton CR020-2PI tamper resistant, and can I use it in a school or daycare?
It is not tamper resistant. The CR020-2PI is a smooth face, non-TR device. For dwelling-unit areas and the child-occupied spaces where tamper-resistant receptacles are called for, you need a TR-rated version instead. For commercial office, retail and light-industrial areas, non-TR is the normal specification.
4) Can I put this 20A receptacle on a 15-amp circuit?
No. A 20A receptacle like the CR020-2PI belongs on a 20A branch circuit with 12 AWG conductors. On a 15A breaker with 14 AWG wire you would be inviting a 20A cord onto an undersized circuit. If the circuit is 15A, use a 5-15R device instead.
5) What is the difference between Commercial Specification Grade and a residential receptacle?
Specification Grade, which is what the CR020-2PI is built to, means heavier contact construction and better blade retention for openings that see constant plugging and unplugging. A residential-grade device in a breakroom or copy room loosens up and stops holding a cord. That is the reason facility and MRO buyers standardize on spec grade across a building.
6) How many wires does the Leviton CR020-2PI take?
Three: hot, neutral and equipment ground. It is a 2-pole, 3-wire grounding duplex on a 125V circuit, so a standard 20A branch circuit with a ground conductor is all it needs. It gives you two grounded outlets on the one strap.
7) Is Leviton CR020-2PI ivory the same color as white?
No, ivory is a warmer off-cream tone and it will read differently next to white devices and plates. The CR020-2PI is an ivory finish, so match it to existing ivory receptacles, switches and wallplates on the floor rather than mixing it into a white run.
8) What is the exact part number to order the ivory 20A Decora Plus duplex?
Leviton manufacturer part number CR020-2PI. The CR suffix family is the Commercial Specification Grade Decora Plus line; the 2PI designates the ivory, 20A 125V smooth face duplex.
