On a 20-amp branch circuit it is only acceptable where the code allows a 15-amp receptacle on a 20-amp multi-outlet circuit, and it will not pass a 20-amp T-slot plug. If the job calls for a single receptacle on a dedicated 20-amp circuit, or for 20-amp plug capability, specify a 20A GFCI instead.
