Leviton 80409-NE – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Leviton 80409 wallplate cover two Decora switches, or does one opening have to be a GFCI?
Either combination works. The 80409 is a 2-gang plate with two Decora-style rectangular openings, so it covers two Decora switches, two GFCI receptacles, or one of each side by side. GFCI receptacles and Decora devices share the same rectangular face opening, which is why a single plate covers both.
2) Is this Leviton plate a standard size or an oversized/jumbo wallplate?
Standard size. The 80409 is a standard device mount plate, so it fits a normal 2-gang device box and normal device spacing without special hardware. If your drywall cut is ragged or the old plate left an oversized footprint, a standard plate will not hide it and you want a jumbo/oversized plate instead.
3) Can I use this on a 2-gang box where one device is a standard duplex outlet?
No. Both openings on the 80409 are Decora-style rectangular cutouts, so a standard duplex receptacle with two round faces will not fill the opening correctly. For that mix you need a combination plate with one duplex opening and one Decora opening, or swap the duplex for a Decora-style receptacle.
4) What is the difference between the Leviton 80409-NR and 80409-NE wallplates?
They are the two configuration options of the same 2-gang Decora/GFCI plate. Order 80409-NE or 80409-NR to match what your jobsite and box setup calls for; the gang count, nylon material, and device opening style are identical between them. Confirm the suffix on your purchase order, because the part numbers differ only by those last two letters.
5) Will nylon wallplates hold up better than plastic in a rental or high-traffic commercial space?
That is the reason to pick this one. The 80409 is molded from thermoplastic nylon rather than standard rigid plastic, so it resists cracking and impact better, which matters on turnover units, corridors, and back-of-house walls where plates get hit by carts and furniture. For fleet standardization across a building, the black finish and standard 2-gang footprint keep every opening looking the same.
6) Does the Leviton 80409 wallplate come with mounting screws?
Device mount plates like the 80409 attach with screws through the plate into the device mounting strap, not into the box. Leviton ships these plates with the mounting screws, and the screws are color matched to the plate. If you are replacing a plate only, the screws already in the device will work as well.
7) Is this the right plate for a new-construction 2-gang GFCI install, or only for retrofit?
Both. It mounts to the device on a standard 2-gang box, so it works the same on new rough-in and on a plate swap during a renovation. Nothing about the install changes between the two cases; the plate never touches the box, only the device straps.
