Leviton PJ2-E – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does midway size mean on a Leviton 2-gang wallplate, and when do I need it instead of standard?
Midway is the in-between plate size: larger than a standard plate but not full oversized. Electricians reach for it when the drywall cut around the box is a little ragged or the device sits slightly off center, so a standard plate leaves a gap at the edge. The Leviton PJ2-E covers two adjacent device openings at midway size. If your openings are clean and square, a standard-size 2-gang plate is enough; if you need to hide more wall, go oversized.
2) Is the Leviton PJ2-E wallplate a device-mount plate or does it screw to the box?
It is device mount. The PJ2-E fastens to the mounting strap of the wiring device itself, not to the box ears, which keeps the plate aligned with the switch or receptacle rather than with the box. That matters on retrofits where the box is set crooked or recessed, since the plate follows the device.
3) Will the Leviton PJ2-E cover a two-gang box with a switch and a receptacle side by side?
Yes. It is a blank-free two-opening plate sized for two adjacent devices, so a switch in one position and a receptacle in the other is exactly the combination it is made for. Both devices need to be standard strap-mount wiring devices, since the plate screws to the device straps.
4) What color is the Leviton PJ2-E 2-gang wallplate?
Black. If you are standardizing a floor of offices or a corridor of apartments on black devices, the PJ2-E is the 2-gang midway plate that matches; order the same catalog color across the openings so the run looks consistent.
5) Is a nylon wallplate durable enough for a high-traffic commercial corridor?
That is what this one is built for. The PJ2-E is thermoplastic nylon rather than commodity plastic, so it resists impact and cracking better in places like retail floors, school hallways and apartment common areas. It is rated commercial grade, not residential.
6) Do the mounting screws come with the Leviton PJ2-E wallplate, or do I need to source them?
Wallplates like the PJ2-E ship with the plate itself; the screws that hold it on are the ones that come with the wiring device strap. If you are replacing only the plate and the old screws are painted over or stripped, pick up matching black device screws so the heads blend with the plate.
