Leviton REWP1-CS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a Leviton Renu REWP1-CS wallplate fit a standard Decora switch or receptacle?
Not on its own. The Renu screwless wallplate snaps onto a Renu device, and Renu devices only. There is one way around it: the Renu adaptor ring REA00 lets any Decora device sit in a Renu wallplate. The adaptor ring is sold separately and only comes in White on White (for Decora White), Navajo Sand (for Decora Light Almond) and Onyx Black (for Decora Black), so if you're covering a Corn Silk opening over a Decora device, the ring colour underneath won't match the plate. On existing Decora work, a standard Decora screwless plate is usually the cleaner answer.
2) Does the Renu REWP1-CS wallplate come with screws, or do I need a subplate?
Neither. It's a screwless snap-on plate: it clips straight onto the Renu device with no screws and no subplate in the assembly. That's the whole point of the Renu system for anyone changing out a room's worth of devices, since there are no screw heads to line up and nothing to paint around. The Renu device itself is a separate purchase.
3) What do I need to order with a Renu wallplate to finish the opening?
The plate alone won't complete anything. You need the matching Renu device (switch, dimmer or receptacle) in the same colour, since it's sold separately from the plate. If you're keeping a Decora device in the wall, add the REA00 adaptor ring, also sold separately. Order the plate colour and the device colour together so the two faces match at the wall.
4) The Renu REWP1-CS wallplate will not fit a standard toggle switch - what 1-gang plate covers a toggle opening instead?
The Renu REWP1-CS is a screwless snap-on 1-gang plate in Corn Silk that snaps directly onto a Renu device, so it has no toggle opening. For a standard toggle switch in a single-gang box, the Pass and Seymour TP1LA TradeMaster 1-gang toggle switch wall plate is nylon in Light Almond, and the Mulberry 86401 of the 8640 Series is a steel 1-gang plate in White. Both are made for the toggle opening the Renu plate does not carry.
5) The box has two devices in it, so a 1-gang Renu plate is wrong - what covers a two-device opening?
The Renu REWP1-CS is a 1-gang plate and covers a single device position. For two devices, the Renu line also runs in 2-, 3- and 4-gang. On the steel side, the Mulberry 76432 of the 764 Series and the Mulberry 76532 of the 765 Series are both cold rolled steel 2-gang combination wallplates in White, made for two different device types side by side in one cover.
6) I have gouged drywall around an old wallplate. Will the Renu 1-gang plate cover it?
It gives you more margin than a standard plate. The Renu wallplate is made slightly oversize specifically to hide wall damage and paint lines around the box, which is why it gets used on turnover work in apartments and rentals where the old plate left a mark. It won't cover a hole larger than the plate footprint, but typical scuffing, screw pulls and paint edge are within it.
7) I need to do 2-gang and 3-gang openings in the same Corn Silk colour. Does Renu go beyond 1-gang?
Yes. Renu screwless snap-on plates are made in 2, 3 and 4-gang as well as the 1-gang REWP1-CS, and the line runs in 20 colours plus a stainless steel finish, so a property manager standardizing a building can carry Corn Silk across single switches, multi-gang banks and combination openings without a colour break. Each gang size is a separate part number.
8) Is the Renu REWP1-CS wallplate plastic or metal, and will it hold up in a commercial corridor?
It's an engineering grade polymer plate, not metal. That suits residential, multi-family and light commercial spaces where appearance matters and the plate isn't taking impact. For high-abuse areas (mechanical rooms, loading corridors, back-of-house), a steel plate is the more durable choice, such as the Mulberry 8640 Series steel 1-gang wallplate in white. Note the steel plates are screw-mount, not snap-on.
9) Is the Leviton Renu screwless wallplate UL listed?
It carries cULus, meaning it is listed to both US and Canadian requirements, so it's acceptable on jobs on either side of the border without a second part number.
10) What 1-gang plate should be used where the switch has to be identified as a gas burner control?
The Renu REWP1-CS is a plain screwless snap-on plate in Corn Silk with no marking. Where the control must be identified at the wall, the Mulberry 41020 of the 4102 Series is a Gas Burner Red 1-gang toggle switch plate, carrying the legend on the plate itself for a toggle-style switch.
11) Can I use a Renu 1-gang plate over a data or phone jack?
No. The Renu plate snaps to a Renu wiring device and has no modular jack opening or jack built in. For a voice or data opening you want a plate with the jack in it, like the Eaton wallplate with a 4-conductor data/voice modular jack, Type 625B4. Keep the Renu plates on the power devices and use the jack plate for the comm drop.
12) What is the Leviton part number for the 1-gang Renu wallplate in Corn Silk?
REWP1-CS is the number, a 1-gang screwless snap-on Renu wallplate in Corn Silk. The REWP prefix is the Renu wallplate line, the 1 is the gang count, and CS is the Corn Silk colour code, which is how the rest of the colour range is coded as well.
