1) Will the Lockey Key Override System work on my 2930DC push button lock?
Yes. The Lockey KOS is built for the 2900 Series (2900, 2900DC, 2930, 2930DC, 2950, 2950DC, 2985, 2985DC) and the 2000 Series (2200, 2210, 2210DC, 2500, 2830, 2830DC, 2835, 2835DC). It bolts on as a backup entry path so a lost combination doesn't mean a drilled lock. If your lock is outside those two families, this add-on isn't the right part.
2) What door thickness does the Lockey key override kit fit?
1-1/8 inch to 2 inches as supplied, which covers a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door and the older 1-3/8 inch interior doors both. Thicker openings, gate frames or clad doors go up to 5 inches with the optional Extension Kit, which is ordered separately.
3) Do I have to order the Lockey KOS handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The key override is field reversible, so the same kit goes on a left hand or right hand door with no extra parts and no separate SKU. Useful if you're stocking one kit for a building with doors swinging both ways.
4) Can I put the Lockey override on my building's existing Schlage master key system?
It uses a standard Schlage keyway, so it can be worked into an existing Schlage key system rather than adding another key to the ring. Order it keyed alike if you want one key across multiple doors, or keyed different if each opening needs its own. Three keys come with the kit.
5) Which side gets the key on the Lockey Key Override System?
Knob on the exterior, thumb turn on the interior. So the key side is outside where you'd expect a lockout to happen, and anyone inside turns out without a key.
6) Do I need to worry about backset when adding the Lockey key override?
Backset is adjustable on this kit, so it isn't a value you have to pin down before ordering the way you would with a cylindrical lockset. It adapts to the prep already in the door alongside the 2000 or 2900 Series lock.
7) How much of the door face does the Lockey override take up?
The unit measures 8-1/16 x 2-1/2 x 2 inches. Worth checking against narrow stiles or against glass and vision lites before you drill, since it needs that footprint clear next to the existing push button lock.
8) Is the Lockey key override okay on an exterior gate or a coastal door?
It's aluminum and weather resistant, so exterior use is within its intent, and there's a Marine Grade finish option specifically for salt air and pool chemical exposure. Eight other finishes cover interior work: Antique Brass, Bright Brass, Bright Chrome, Jet Black, Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Satin Chrome, Satin Nickel and White.
9) What do I need to order with the Lockey KOS to finish the job?
Two things get decided at order time: finish, and keying (keyed alike or keyed different, which is a required selection). Keys are in the box. The only separate item is the Extension Kit, and that's only if the door is thicker than 2 inches.
10) Is a key override worth adding to a keypad lock, or should I just use a separate deadbolt?
A key override earns its place where the consequence of a forgotten or changed combination is a service call: tenant turnover, contractor access, staff rotation. It shares the door with the existing Lockey push button lock instead of adding a second point of entry to prep and maintain, and it puts the opening on a Schlage key you may already carry. A separate deadbolt gives you a second lock to manage and key. If only one or two people ever use the code and you have another way in, you can skip it.
