1) People are reaching through my gate from the outside and pushing the panic bar to let themselves in. What stops that?
That is exactly the problem the Lockey PSMAX Max Guard is built for. It's a steel shield that mounts above the panic bar on a gate so an arm or a tool coming through the gate from the outside can't get down onto the push pad. Egress from the inside is untouched, so anyone leaving still just pushes the bar and walks out. It covers a 26 inch run of the bar and stands 3/4 inch deep off the mounting face, which is what puts a physical barrier between an outside hand and the mechanism.
2) How long is the Lockey PSMAX panic shield, and will it cover the whole panic bar on my gate?
The PSMAX measures 26 inches long, 4 3/4 inches wide, and 3/4 inch deep. Measure the exposed run of your push bar first: 26 inches is the coverage you get, so on a wide gate leaf with a longer device the shield protects the section it spans rather than the full bar end to end. Also check the clearance above the bar, since the shield mounts there and needs 4 3/4 inches of clear face plus 3/4 inch of projection.
3) Does a panic shield lock the gate or block people from getting out in an emergency?
No. The Max Guard shield doesn't touch how the exit device works from the secure side.
