1) Will the Lockey SUMO GL2 gate lock fit a 2 inch thick gate?
Yes. The SUMO GL2 surface mount gate lock covers gates from 1 1/4 inches to 3.5 inches thick, so a 2 inch gate sits in the middle of the range with no extra parts. That span takes in most ornamental steel and aluminum picket gates as well as heavier wood and vinyl frames. Measure the actual frame member the lock body will land on, not the overall gate leaf, since that is the dimension the lock has to clamp through.
2) My gate frame is thicker than 3.5 inches. Can I still use a Lockey SUMO GL2?
Up to 5 inches, yes, but only with the optional Extension Kit. On its own the SUMO GL2 handles 1 1/4 inch to 3.5 inch gates; the Extension Kit takes it to 5 inches. The kit is a separate order, so add it at the same time if your frame measures over 3.5 inches. Past 5 inches the GL2 is the wrong lock for the opening.
3) Can the Lockey SUMO GL2 keypad gate lock be installed without welding?
No welding needed. The SUMO GL2 is a surface mount lock and ships with a mounting kit, so it goes on ornamental, aluminum, vinyl, and wood gates with hand tools. That matters on aluminum and vinyl, where welding is not an option at all, and on painted ornamental steel where a weld means grinding and refinishing afterward. The strike and keyed receiver mount to the post on the other side of the opening.
4) There is a gap between my gate and the post. Will the SUMO GL2 still latch?
Gaps up to 2 inches are covered. The SUMO GL2 uses an adjustable strike that takes up the space between gate and post, which is what makes it workable on ornamental gates that have sagged or on posts that were set a little wide. Measure the gap with the gate in the closed position at the latch height, not at the hinge. Anything over 2 inches and you are into shimming the post or resetting the gate before this lock will engage.
5) Do I have to order the Lockey SUMO GL2 for a left hand or right hand gate?
Handing is not part of the order. The SUMO GL2 is field reversible, so the same lock adapts to the gate swing direction on site.
