Bemis 126MBSL 000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What bolt spread does this Bemis seat need on the bowl?
The 126MBSL mounts on a 5.5 inch bolt spread, measured center to center between the two holes at the back of the bowl. That is the standard spacing on North American two-hole bowls, so it drops onto virtually any elongated bowl drilled to that pattern.
2) We keep having to retighten toilet seats in our apartment units. Does the STA-TITE system actually solve that?
That is the reason to spec it. The STA-TITE Seat Fastening System on the Benton seat is designed not to loosen once set, which is the usual maintenance call on multi-family and commercial restrooms. Pair that with the Whisper Close hinge and you also cut the slamming that cracks lids over time.
3) Are the hinges on the Mayfair Benton plastic or metal?
Metal, finished in matte black. That matters if you are matching matte black faucets, supply stops, or towel bars in a remodel, and it holds up better than plastic in a high-traffic restroom.
4) Is an enameled wood toilet seat a good choice for a rental or a busy commercial restroom?
Enameled wood, like the Benton 126MBSL, is a molded wood core with a high-gloss enamel shell that resists chipping and scratching. It is heavier and more rigid underfoot than a thin plastic seat, so it feels solid in rentals and hospitality baths. Plastic seats are the alternative if you want something lighter and easier to scrub with aggressive chemicals; enamel finishes prefer mild cleaners.
5) Do I need any extra hardware to install this seat?
No separate hardware purchase is needed. The Benton seat ships with its STA-TITE fastening hardware and installs from the top on a 5.5 inch bolt spread, so you do not have to reach behind the bowl. Bemis publishes an installation guide and spec sheet for 126MBSL 000 if you want the step-by-step before sending a tech out.
6) What color does the Bemis 126MBSL come in, and do the bumpers match?
White is the color offered, ordered as part number 126MBSL 000, and the bumpers are color-matched to the seat. The only contrasting element is the matte black hinge.
