The DS-6 converts a double acting door hung on center pivots into a single acting door. It holds the door so it only swings one way, and its emergency release lets the door swing open in the opposite direction when someone needs out or in fast. 2) Will the DS-6 rescue door stop work on a butt hinged door, or only center pivots?
Center hung pivot doors, or doors with a 1/8 inch inset. McKinney recommends the DS-6 with their EP-5J pivot, and the whole point of the unit is converting a double acting pivot door to single acting. A standard butt hinged door already swings one way and has no need for it. If your door is on offset or butt hinges, this is the wrong part.
3) What prep does the McKinney DS-6 door stop need in the frame?
Mortise on the frame only. The DS-6 requires no prep in the door itself, which keeps the work on one side of the opening and matters if the door leaf is glass or an existing slab you would rather not machine.
4) Do I need to order a pivot separately with the McKinney DS-6?
Yes. The DS-6 is the stop only, and McKinney recommends installing it with their EP-5J pivot. The pivot is what hangs the door; the DS-6 controls which way it swings. Order both if you are building the opening from scratch, or just the DS-6 if the center hung pivot set is already in place.
