Medeco CT-Z20 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Medeco CT-Z20 used for?
The CT-Z20 is a Sargent-style cam for Medeco commercial mechanical lock cylinders. It's the small driven plate at the back of the cylinder that transfers key rotation to the lock body, and it's sold as a replacement part so you can restore cylinder function without swapping the whole cylinder.
2) Is the CT-Z20 a cylinder, or just the cam?
Just the cam. It's a single replacement component, not a keyed cylinder and not a complete cam lock, so if the plug or housing is the problem you'll need a cylinder rather than this part. Order it when the cam itself is worn, bent, or the wrong style for the lock you're fitting the cylinder into.
3) Will the Medeco CT-Z20 cam work on a Sargent lock?
It's built as a Sargent cam, so it's the correct style where a Medeco cylinder has to drive Sargent lock hardware. Cam style has to match the lock body it operates, so confirm the existing cam you are pulling out is the Sargent pattern before ordering.
4) Is this a genuine Medeco part or an aftermarket cam?
Genuine Medeco. For locksmiths rekeying or servicing a Medeco system, that matters because the cam has to index correctly to the plug it is mounted on, and aftermarket geometry is where you get sloppy or binding key turn.
5) Is the CT-Z20 cam meant for commercial or residential locks?
Commercial. It's part of Medeco's professional parts line for commercial mechanical locks, and it shows up in office buildings, schools, healthcare and government facilities, retail, warehouses, and multi-tenant residential properties where Medeco cylinders are standardized across the doors.
6) Does the CT-Z20 come with screws or a tailpiece?
The CT-Z20 is supplied as the cam alone. If your service job also needs a tailpiece, retaining screw, or a different cam pattern for another lock brand on the same building, those are separate line items.
