Medeco Tail piece CT-Y61 for 11C611T-05-DLT

Medeco® Mortise cylinders have threads on the outside of the shell and are designed to be screwed into other manufacturer's mortise lock cases. A cam on the back of the cylinder operates the lock mechanism and a set screw holds the mortise cylinder in place.

Rim cylinders are used with auxiliary rim locks such as: surface mounted deadbolts, night latches, panic devices and jimmy proof locks (also know as vertical drop bolts or interlocking deadbolts). Rim cylinders are held in place with a back plate and two mounting screws.

High Security rim and mortise cylinders, are UL437 listed for drill and pick resistance, and the those that incorporate the Medeco 4 (M4) design offer utility patented key control.

Rim and Mortise cylinders can be ordered with a variety of different cylinder technologies, including the features below for Medeco 4 (M4).

Features

  • Patented Key Control - Protects against unauthorized duplication of your keys.
  • Uses Existing Hardware - M4 cylinders are available in a wide variety of formats, retrofitting most hardware on the market today.
  • Can Be Masterkeyed - Can be masterkeyed into a system containing M4 BiLevel.
  • Protection From Physical Attack - M4 cylinders are UL 437 listed and stand up to drilling, picking and other forms of physical attack.
  • Special Angle Cut Keys - Requires a special key cutting machine and access to Medeco specific blanks, available in a variety of restrictions to support every need.
  • Picking & Bump Protection - M4 cylinders use a sidebar that prevents the key from rotating until it is elevated, rotated and aligned in the correct position.  This feature offers protection against bumping and picking attacks.

Medeco CT-Y61 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Medeco CT-Y61 tailpiece used for?
The CT-Y61 is a replacement tailpiece, the part that transfers key rotation from the cylinder into the lock mechanism. Medeco lists it for the 11C611T-05-DLT cylinder, and the variant offered is the thick door deadbolt tailpiece. It is a service part, not a cylinder, so you are not getting a keyed plug or keys with it.
2) Is the Medeco CT-Y61 tailpiece the right one for a thicker door?
Yes. The single version offered is the thick door deadbolt tailpiece, which is the longer tailpiece you use when the added door thickness leaves the standard tailpiece short of the lock. If your deadbolt is on a standard thickness door and the existing tailpiece engages fine, you do not need this one.
3) Do I need a whole new rim cylinder, or just the Medeco CT-Y61 tailpiece?
The Medeco CT-Y61 is the tailpiece only, the brass driver bar that transmits key rotation from the Medeco 11C611T-05-DLT cylinder into the lock, in the thick door deadbolt length. If the cylinder itself is intact and keyed the way you want and only the tailpiece is bent, stripped, or the wrong length for the door, the CT-Y61 is the part to order. If the cylinder body is damaged or you need a different keying, you are buying a complete cylinder instead, such as the Kaba Ilco 605 Series 5 pin replacement rim cylinder in satin brass.
4) For an inside opening where no key is wanted, is the Medeco CT-Y61 the wrong part?
Yes, in the sense that the CT-Y61 is a tailpiece for a keyed Medeco 11C611T-05-DLT cylinder and does not change how the opening is operated. For an interior side that should turn by hand instead of by key, a turnknob rim cylinder such as the Kaba Ilco 7011 or the ADA 7011 thumbturn, both 1-1/8 inch, is the part that does that job. For a hole that needs filling with no operation at all, the Kaba Ilco 7010 is a dummy rim cylinder in the same 1-1/8 inch size.
5) Will a new tailpiece let me keep my existing Medeco keys and keying?
Yes. Replacing the tailpiece does not touch the plug, pins or sidebar, so your Medeco keying, masterkeying and patented key control are unaffected. Medeco M4 cylinders can be masterkeyed into a system containing M4 BiLevel, and swapping a tailpiece has no bearing on that.
6) The door is too thick for the tailpiece I have. Is a longer tailpiece the answer or a different cylinder?
The Medeco CT-Y61 is supplied in a thick door deadbolt length, so for a Medeco 11C611T-05-DLT cylinder on an oversized door the tailpiece swap is the normal fix and leaves the existing keying alone. Where the problem is the cylinder projection rather than the tailpiece, a complete replacement rim cylinder is the route instead, for example the Kaba Ilco 605 Series 5 pin unit or the 1-1/8 inch Kaba Ilco 7011 turnknob rim cylinder.
7) I am standardizing a building and do not need patented key control. What replaces a Medeco cylinder and its CT-Y61 tailpiece?
The CT-Y61 serves Medeco's high security M4 platform, which is UL 437 listed for drill and pick resistance and carries patented key control against unauthorized key duplication. Where an opening does not call for that level of key control, a standard replacement rim cylinder like the Kaba Ilco 605 Series 5 pin in satin brass covers the same mechanical job of operating a rim device, without the restricted keyway and the angle cut keys the Medeco system requires.
8) Will a Kaba Ilco rim cylinder accept the Medeco CT-Y61 tailpiece?
Treat them as separate systems. The CT-Y61 is specified for the Medeco 11C611T-05-DLT and is part of the Medeco cylinder assembly, while the Kaba Ilco 605 Series, 7010 dummy, 7011 turnknob and ADA 7011 thumbturn are sold as complete rim cylinders in their own right. If you are fitting an Ilco unit, order it as the whole cylinder rather than trying to carry the Medeco tailpiece across.
9) Is the CT-Y61 tailpiece suitable for commercial door hardware?
It is catalogued by Medeco as a commercial door hardware part, intended for their high security cylinder line. Medeco high security rim and mortise cylinders are UL 437 listed for drill and pick resistance, which is the class of hardware this tailpiece services.
