1) Will a Mersen GSA fuse fit a standard 6.3x32mm fuse holder?
Yes. The GSA Series is a 6.3x32mm ferrule fuse, so it drops into any holder or clip block built for that size (commonly called 1/4 x 1-1/4 inch). Stated body length is 1.25 in. The terminals are ferrule type and the mounting is clip contact, so there are no solder tabs or screw lugs to deal with, just pull the old fuse and press the new one into the clips.
2) What amp ratings does the Mersen GSA time-delay fuse come in?
Nine ratings: 1A, 2A, 3A, 5A, 8A, 10A, 12A, 15A and 20A, ordered as GSA1 through GSA20. All of them share the same 6.3x32mm ceramic body and the same 250VAC rating, so the holder and panel prep do not change when you move up or down the range. That makes it straightforward to standardize one holder type across a control cabinet and stock only the amperages you actually use.
3) Can I use a Mersen GSA fuse as the branch circuit protection in a panel?
No. The GSA is a supplemental-class fuse. Supplemental fuses protect a specific piece of equipment or an internal circuit downstream of a device that is already providing branch circuit protection. They do not replace the branch circuit fuse or breaker feeding the panel. If you are protecting the branch itself, you need a branch-rated device, not a 6.3x32mm supplemental fuse.
4) My fuse keeps blowing when the motor or power supply starts up, will a time delay fuse fix it?
That is what the GSA is built for. It has a time-delay speed characteristic, so it tolerates the brief inrush current of a motor start, a transformer energizing, or a switching power supply charging its capacitors, while still opening on a sustained overload or a fault. A fast-acting fuse of the same amp rating will nuisance-trip on that same inrush. Swapping to a time-delay fuse of the same rating and the same 6.3x32mm size is the usual fix, as long as the nuisance trips are genuinely startup related and not a real overload.
5) Is the Mersen GSA rated for DC circuits?
The GSA carries an AC rating only: 250V AC, UL rated. If your circuit is DC, this is not the right fuse. DC arcs do not self extinguish at a current zero the way AC arcs do, so a fuse used on DC needs a published DC voltage rating and interrupting capability. Use the GSA on AC control and equipment circuits at 250V or less.
6) Can a Square D PowerLogic energy meter fuse pack be used in place of a Mersen GSA fuse?
No - they protect different things. 7) Ceramic or glass fuse, which should I put in a control panel?
Ceramic, which is what the GSA body is.
