Mersen MPDB Series Open-Style Power Distribution Block, Tin-Plated Aluminum

The Mersen MPDB Series Open-Style Power Distribution Block (PDB) is engineered for splicing cables, splitting primary power into secondary circuits, and providing fixed junction tap-off points in commercial and industrial electrical systems. This family is available across Motor FLA ratings from 135A to 500A, letting panel builders select the configuration that matches their motor branch-circuit load. Built with tin-plated aluminum connectors and a glass filled polycarbonate insulating body, the MPDB Series is rated 1000V AC/DC (UL and CSA), UL 1953 compliant, and configured with 1-4 openings accepting 2/0-#14 AWG on the primary side and #4-#14 AWG box-to-box on the secondary side. It meets spacing requirements for feeder and branch circuits per UL508A and the National Electrical Code®, making it a dependable choice across the full 135A-500A Motor FLA range.

Mersen MPDB63130 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What wire sizes will the Mersen MPDB power distribution block accept on the primary and secondary side?
The MPDB Series takes 2/0 through #14 AWG on the primary side and #4 through #14 AWG on the secondary, with box-type connectors on both ends. Openings run 1 to 4 depending on configuration, so one block can feed several tap-off circuits. Conductors land in box lugs, not under saddle clamps or set screws on a bus bar.
2) Which Mersen MPDB part number do I order for a 135A motor versus a larger motor load?
Two Motor FLA configurations are offered: MPDB63130 at 135A and MPDB69130 at 500A. Pick the one at or above the full-load amps of the motor branch circuit you are feeding. There is no intermediate FLA step between them, so a 200A motor load goes to the 500A block.
3) Is the Mersen MPDB block rated for 600V panel work and for DC circuits?
It is rated 1000V AC and 1000V DC under UL, so a 480V or 600V AC panel is well inside the rating, and DC use is covered at the same 1000V. Frequency rating is 50/60 Hz. That DC rating makes it usable in solar and battery distribution as well as standard AC panelboards.
4) Will this power distribution block pass a UL508A panel inspection?
Yes. The MPDB Series is UL 1953 compliant, UL and CSA approved, and meets the spacing requirements for feeder and branch circuits under UL508A and the National Electrical Code. That is the combination a UL508A panel shop needs on record for a splice or tap block inside an industrial control panel.
5) What short circuit current rating can I use for this block on my panel label?
Standalone SCCR is 10 kA. Protected by a Class CC fuse up to 30A it is 100 kA, and protected by a Class G fuse up to 60A it is also 100 kA. If your panel label needs more than 10 kA, the block has to sit behind one of those fuse classes at or below the stated amp rating.
6) Is this an open-style block or an enclosed one, and how does it mount?
Open style, mounted by direct screw into the panel back plate or enclosure subpanel. Because the terminations are exposed, it has to be installed inside an enclosure or behind a dead front; it is not a finger-safe or covered block on its own.
7) Can I use aluminum conductors with the Mersen MPDB, and will it hold up in a corrosive environment?
The connectors themselves are tin-plated aluminum in a glass filled polycarbonate body. The tin plating is what gives the corrosion resistance and the dissimilar-metal tolerance at the lug, and the glass filled body carries the mechanical and dielectric load. Wire sizing still has to follow the block's stated 2/0-#14 primary range.
8) Does the Mersen MPDB block meet RoHS for a government or institutional spec?
Yes, the MPDB Series is RoHS compliant, alongside its UL Listing and UL508A spacing compliance. That covers the material-restriction line item most public-sector and healthcare electrical specs carry.
9) Do Mersen MPDB blocks come individually or in a multipack?
They are packaged 6 each, so a single order unit covers a run of panels rather than one enclosure. Worth knowing if you are buying for a one-off repair versus standardizing a build.
