Yes. The Milbank hinge cover enclosure is a Type 3R rated steel enclosure, which is the standard rating for outdoor use against rain, sleet and falling dirt. It is built from G90 galvanized steel with a powder coat finish in ANSI 61 gray, and it is UL Listed. Type 3R is rainproof, not dust tight or washdown rated, so for hosedown or heavy dust interiors you want a Type 4 or 12 enclosure instead.
2) What sizes does the Milbank double door Type 3R enclosure come in?
Six sizes, given as height x width x depth in inches: 24x24x10, 36x48x12, 44x30x10, 48x36x12, 48x44x12 and 48x48x16. Order by the matching part number, for example 484816-CT3R for the 48x48x16 and 242410-CT3R for the 24x24x10. Pick the depth against your deepest mounted device plus wire bending space.
3) Does this Milbank enclosure come with knockouts for conduit?
No. This is a blank enclosure with no knockouts, so every conduit entry gets field punched or hole sawed where you want it. That is an advantage on a custom layout, but plan on a knockout punch set on site. Keep penetrations out of the top surface to preserve the Type 3R rainproof performance.
4) Can this enclosure be locked out for maintenance?
Yes. The double doors use a 3 point handle mechanism that is padlockable, so you can apply a lockout padlock for LOTO on the disconnect or panel inside. The 3 point latching also pulls the door tight at top, center and bottom, which is what keeps the gasket seal even across a tall door.
5) Is a back panel included, or do I have to order one separately?
Mounting provisions are built in: the enclosure comes with weld studs on the back for panel mounting. Confirm the back panel itself is on your order line, and size it to the enclosure dimension you select, since a panel cut for a 48x36x12 will not land on the studs of a 24x24x10.
6) Do the double doors have a center post between them?
No center post. This version is specified with no center position, so opening both doors gives you a full clear width opening, which matters when you are landing a wide panelboard or pulling a large back panel in and out. If your gear mounts to a center mullion, this is the wrong configuration.
7) What does the draw shield on this Milbank enclosure do?
The draw shield is an internal baffle at the door opening that blocks wind driven rain and debris from reaching the gear when the doors are closed. It is part of what gets this steel enclosure its Type 3R outdoor rating, and it is one reason you should not drill the top panel.
