1) Will the Milbank U7262-RL-TG meter socket work for an underground service lateral?
No. The U7262-RL-TG is built for overhead service only, with a small hub opening at the top for the service mast and a triplex ground connection for overhead triplex drop. For an underground lateral you need a socket with bottom-feed provisions instead. Cable entry on this one is overhead, full stop.
2) Is a 4 terminal ringless socket the right one for a standard 120/240V single phase residential service?
Yes. Four jaws on a single phase, 3 wire 120/240V residential or light commercial service is the normal configuration, and this Milbank socket is 1 phase, 1 meter position, 4 terminal, rated 150 continuous amps at 600V AC, 60 Hz. If your utility form calls for a 5th terminal (network or 3 wire network metering), this is not the socket.
3) Does this Milbank 150A meter socket include a main breaker or disconnect?
No breaker of any kind. The U7262 is a meter-only socket, no main breaker and no receptacles, so overcurrent protection has to come from the panel or a separate service disconnect downstream. If your jurisdiction requires an outdoor disconnect at the meter, plan on a meter-main combination or a separate disconnect enclosure.
4) What size conductors will the lugs on the Milbank U7262 take?
Both line and load terminals accept 6 AWG through 350 kcmil, and they are lay-in style so you drop the conductor in rather than threading it through a closed barrel. That range covers typical 150A service conductors in copper or aluminum, and leaves room if you are pulling oversized aluminum for voltage drop.
5) What is the difference between the U7262-RL-TG, the -KK, and the -KK-ALT versions?
All three are 150A, 4 terminal, ringless, small hub open with triplex ground. The base U7262-RL-TG has no bypass. The -KK adds horn bypass, which lets the utility pull the meter without dropping the customer's power. The -KK-ALT is the horn bypass version in a narrow shell built to the Alliant Energy spec. Order to whatever your serving utility's approved meter socket list calls for, because they will refuse to set a meter on the wrong one.
6) Is 150 amps enough, or should I go to a 200A meter socket?
The U7262 is rated 150 continuous amperes, so it suits services protected at 150A or less. If the panel behind it is a 200A service, or the utility is sizing the drop for 200A, this socket is undersized and you want a 200A 4 terminal ringless socket instead. The socket rating has to meet or exceed the service rating, not the actual load.
7) Can this Milbank ringless socket be mounted outdoors on an exterior wall?
Yes. It is UL Listed and Type 3R rated, which is the rainproof outdoor enclosure rating, and it surface mounts flat to the wall or a backing board. The shell is G90 galvanized steel with a powder coat finish for corrosion resistance, and the internal insulation is glass polyester.
