Milwaukee 2890-20 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Milwaukee 2890-20 jobsite radio use the same batteries as my M18 drills and saws?
Yes. The 2890-20 runs on the Milwaukee M18 cordless battery platform, so any M18 pack already on your truck or charger will power it. That is the main reason crews add it: no second charger, no separate battery type, and no need to hunt for an outlet on a site where power isn't live yet.
2) Is the 2890-20 a bare tool, or does a battery and charger come with it?
It's the radio on its own. Milwaukee's -20 suffix designates a bare tool, so plan on supplying an M18 battery (and a charger) separately. If you're already running M18 tools you have both; if the 2890-20 is your entry point into the platform, order a pack and charger with it.
3) What is the exact Milwaukee part number for the M18 jobsite radio so I can order the right one?
Order it as Milwaukee 2890-20. That is the manufacturer model and part number for the M18 cordless jobsite radio, and it is how the item is identified across the M18 line. Quote 2890-20 on the PO rather than just "M18 radio," since Milwaukee has sold several radio and radio/charger models on the same battery platform.
4) Can a jobsite radio like the Milwaukee 2890-20 run without AC power on a site that isn't energized yet?
That's exactly what it's for. The 2890-20 is battery powered off the M18 platform, so it works during rough-in, demo, or outdoor work where no outlet is available. Crews on renovation and new-construction jobs use it for music, news, and talk radio without running a cord or tying up a temp-power circuit.
5) Is the Milwaukee 2890-20 suitable for a shop or garage, or is it strictly a construction tool?
Both. It's built as a jobsite radio for active construction and renovation work, but the same portable form factor suits workshops, garages, and mobile or outdoor work locations. Fleet buyers standardizing on M18 often put one in each shop bay for the same reason as the field crews: the batteries are already there.
