Mulberry 30458 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Mulberry 30452 weatherproof cover fit two devices side by side?
Yes. The Mulberry 30452 is a 2-gang cover, so it spans two device openings under one housing. If your box is a single-gang, this is the wrong part, you'd need a 1-gang cover instead.
2) What is the difference between Mulberry 30452 and 30458 2-gang covers?
They're the two ordering options on the same 2-gang weatherproof self-closing cover. 30452 is the powder coated version, 30458 is the die cast aluminum version. Specify by part number when you order so you get the finish you want.
3) Is a self-closing cover like this enough for an outlet with a cord plugged in all the time?
No. A self-closing cover seals the opening when the device is not in use; it is not an in-use (bubble) cover. If a cord stays plugged in, such as a patio heater, pond pump, or holiday lighting, you need an in-use weatherproof cover that closes over the plug body. Use the Mulberry 2-gang self-closing cover where the receptacle or switch is only used intermittently.
4) Does this Mulberry outdoor cover close by itself after the cord is unplugged?
It does. The 30452 uses a spring-loaded hinge that returns the lid to the closed position on its own, so the receptacle stays shielded from rain and debris even if nobody remembers to shut it. That is the difference between this and a plain flat cover plate that has to be closed by hand.
5) Can I use the Mulberry 2-gang weatherproof cover on an existing outdoor box, or is it new construction only?
Both. The 2-gang self-closing cover is used on new exterior installations and on retrofit work where an existing outdoor receptacle or switch needs weather protection. What decides it is the box: it has to be a 2-gang outdoor box with matching device openings.
6) Will die cast aluminum hold up on a coastal or pool deck installation?
The housing is die cast aluminum with a powder coated finish, which adds corrosion resistance on top of the casting for exterior service. Pool and patio areas are listed among its intended applications. For heavy salt exposure, plan on the usual routine inspection of any aluminum exterior device cover.
7) Does this cover work over switches as well as receptacles?
Yes. Mulberry lists the 2-gang weatherproof self-closing cover for protecting both outdoor receptacles and switches, so a box with one switch and one outlet is a normal use for it.
