1) Will a 2 inch masonry nail hold in concrete, or do I need an anchor?
The Metallics MN2TM is a 2 inch heat tempered fluted masonry nail, made to be driven directly into concrete, block and other masonry without a pre-drilled anchor. The flutes grip the hole as the nail displaces material, and the heat tempering is what keeps the shank from bending or shattering on a hard pour. For light attachments like strap, clip and box mounting it does the job; for heavy or vibrating loads you still want a mechanical anchor.
2) What length of masonry nail do I need to fasten conduit strap to a block wall?
Depth of embedment is what matters: pick a nail long enough to seat roughly an inch into solid masonry after it passes through whatever you are fastening. At 2 inches, the MN2TM covers thin material like one-hole and two-hole conduit strap, box mounting ears and nail-on clips. If you are going through furring, drywall or thick plate, step up in length.
