1) Will the NGP L-700RX louver fit a 1-3/4 inch door?
That's exactly what the L-700RX is built for. It's a single-thickness louver made for 1-3/4 inch doors held to the door industry tolerance of +/- 1/16 inch. If your leaf is a 1-3/8 inch interior door or a thicker custom slab, this is the wrong part number and you'd need the louver built for that thickness.
2) What cut out sizes does the NGP L-700RX self-attaching door louver come in?
Nine cut out sizes, listed width by height: 12 x 12, 16 x 12, 18 x 12, 18 x 18, 18 x 24, 24 x 12, 24 x 18, 24 x 24, and a tall narrow 4 x 60. The 4 x 60 is the one people miss, it's the vertical slot louver for a full-height strip of ventilation rather than a square panel. Uneven and fractional sizes are also made for openings that don't match a stock cut out.
3) Can anyone see through an NGP no vision door louver?
No. The inverted V blade arrangement blocks the sight line straight through the opening, so you get airflow without anybody looking into the room. That's the reason it goes on mechanical rooms, storage, restroom vestibules, and anywhere a tenant or a patient needs privacy but the space still has to breathe. If you actually want to see through the door, a lite kit with glass is the product, not a louver.
4) Do I need extra screws or trim to install a self-attaching door louver?
The L-700RX ships with the #8 x 3/4 inch Phillips head sheet metal screws and mounts through counter-sunk holes in the frame, so nothing else is required for a standard install. Self-attaching means the two halves pull together on the door from both faces, no separate perimeter trim to order. Cut the opening, set the halves, drive the screws. Insect screen and Torx security screws are the two add-ons worth deciding on before you order.
5) How much air will a 24 x 24 NGP L-700RX louver actually pass?
The L-700RX gives 55 percent free area, so a 24 by 24 inch cut out yields roughly 316 square inches of open area out of the 576 square inch opening. Size the cut out from the CFM your mechanical drawing calls for and that 55 percent figure, don't size it off the nominal opening.
6) Should I order the Torx security screws with a door louver?
Worth it on any opening the public can reach. The standard Phillips SMS screws come out with a driver anybody owns, which on a school corridor, a detention-adjacent space, or a street-facing utility door means the louver can be pulled. Torx security screws are offered as an option on the L-700RX for that reason. On a back-of-house mechanical room the Phillips screws are fine.
7) Is the NGP L-700RX louver strong enough for a school or hospital corridor door?
It's a commercial-duty build: 18 gauge cold rolled steel frame with mitered and welded corners, welded reinforcing clips, and 24 gauge blades with hemmed edges. The hemmed blade edge matters in a corridor, that's the difference between a folded safe edge and a raw sheet edge at hand height on a passing occupant. NGP rates the line for commercial use, and it's specified in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential, and government buildings.
8) My door opening isn't a standard louver size, what do I do?
The L-700RX is made in uneven and fractional cut out sizes, not just the nine stock combinations, so an odd opening doesn't force you into cutting the door larger or filling a gap. Give the cut out dimensions width by height. This matters most on retrofits where a previous louver left an opening that doesn't match anybody's stock chart.
9) Will a dark bronze louver match the rest of my dark bronze door hardware?
The L-700RX-DKB is finished in a dark bronze powder coat over gray primer, which is the standard commercial dark bronze family, so it reads with dark bronze closers, exit devices and pulls on the same opening. Powder coat over primer also holds up better than a painted-on-site louver when you're standardizing a fleet of doors across a property. Other finish options are made in this louver if the building standard is something else.
10) Can I add an insect screen to an NGP door louver on an exterior or warehouse door?
Yes, an aluminum insect screen is an option on the L-700RX and it's the usual call on warehouse, loading dock and utility openings where the louver passes air to the outside. Specify it with the order, it's not something to add cleanly after the louver is set in the door.
