The A71NP is sized for 22-16 AWG stranded copper conductors. That covers the small control, signal, and low-current power wiring typical of panel and fixture terminations. Anything heavier than 16 AWG will not seat in the barrel, so step up to a larger terminal for 14 AWG and above.

The A71NP is a bare, non-insulated ring terminal, so the barrel and the crimped conductor are exposed. On anything where the connection could be touched or could short to adjacent metal, add heat shrink or a nylon sleeve over the barrel, or choose an insulated ring terminal instead. Non-insulated is the usual pick where you want to inspect the crimp, where a sleeve would not fit in a crowded lug stack, or where ambient temperature rules out plastic insulation.

The terminal body is copper with a nickel plating. Copper keeps the conductivity, and nickel plate is the finish specified where tin would be a problem, so it holds up better than tin in high-temperature and corrosion-exposed terminations. It is still a copper terminal, so use it on copper conductors, not aluminum.

Non-insulated barrels crimp with a bare-terminal die, not the color-coded insulated die set. For a 22-16 AWG copper barrel, use the uninsulated nest of a ratcheting crimper matched to that AWG range. An insulated-terminal tool will deform the open barrel instead of forming a proper indent, which is the most common cause of a pull-out failure on this style of terminal.

A ring terminal like the A71NP is the choice anywhere the connection must not back out under vibration, because the screw or stud passes through a closed ring and the wire cannot slip free if the fastener loosens. A fork or spade terminal is faster for service work since you can slide it out without fully removing the screw, which is why panel shops use forks on terminal strips that get re-landed often. For motor studs, grounding screws, and anything that vibrates, go with the ring.

Country of origin on the A71NP is the United States. That matters on government, institutional, and federally funded jobs carrying domestic-sourcing requirements, where a bagged import terminal will not pass submittal review.
