1) Is this flexible conduit jacketed or bare steel? Can I run it outdoors or in a wet location?
It is non-jacketed steel flex, bare metal with no PVC covering. That makes it a dry-location product for interior work like fixture whips, motor connections and equipment drops. For wet or damp areas, or anywhere it may see oil or washdown, you want a PVC jacketed liquidtight flexible metal conduit instead, with liquidtight fittings to match.
2) Do I need special fittings for 3/4 inch steel flexible conduit, or will EMT connectors work?
EMT connectors will not work. Bare steel flex takes fittings made for flexible metal conduit, squeeze or screw-in type, sized 3/4 inch to match the conduit. Fittings are separate, so count a connector for each box and each piece of equipment when you order.
3) Why use steel flexible conduit instead of rigid pipe for equipment connections?
Flex is for the spots where rigid conduit cannot go: the last few feet into a vibrating motor, a rooftop unit, a transformer, or a lighting whip above a ceiling grid. It absorbs vibration and lets you bend around obstructions without a bender. Steel core gives it more crush resistance than aluminum flex on runs exposed to traffic or stored material. Long straight runs are still better done in EMT or rigid.
4) Is the Thomas & Betts BR075-30 conduit sold cut to length or as a full coil?
It ships as a factory coil of 30 meters of 3/4 inch steel flex under part number BR075-30. Cut your own lengths on site with a hacksaw or flex cutter and ream the cut end so the wire insulation does not get shaved on pull-through.
