It is a decorative cover plate, not a closer and not a mounting bracket that carries the closer's load. The plate goes over the surface closer installation to conceal mounting hardware and give the closer a finished face. The closer body, arm and shoe still do all the work; the back plate only changes what the opening looks like. If you are replacing a closer, you still need the closer itself.
2) What finishes does the Norton Rixson 8500 back plate come in to match my existing closers?
Nine finishes: 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 689 aluminum, 690 dark bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 flat black, 694 medium bronze, 696 satin brass painted, BSP black suede powder, and WSP white suede powder. The suede powder finishes (BSP, WSP) are a different texture than the painted 690 and 693, so they will read differently side by side on the same elevation.

No. The plate is fitted as part of the closer installation and does not alter closing speed, backcheck or latch adjustment, those stay on the closer body. Install it per the instructions for the closer it is going on, and set the closer's valves as you normally would.
