1) Can I use this NSi lug on aluminum feeder conductors, or is it copper only?
The NSi 2-T series set-screw lug is dual rated for both copper and aluminum conductors, so you can land AL or CU in it without changing parts. That is what makes it usable on service entrance and feeder work where the utility side is aluminum and the branch side is copper.
2) What wire sizes do the NSi 2-T lug connectors cover?
Two wire ranges are offered. Model 2-2/0T takes 2/0 through 14 AWG, and model 2-600T takes 600 MCM down to 2 AWG. Pick by the largest conductor you have to land: if you are terminating anything above 2/0, the 2-600T is the one.
3) Is this lug UL listed for use with 90 degree C wire like THHN?
The NSi dual-rated aluminum lug carries a 90 C maximum temperature rating and is UL 486A/486B Listed, with cULus recognition for Canada. 486A/486B is the standard covering connectors for both copper and aluminum conductors, which is what backs the dual rating.
4) How many conductors can I land in one of these NSi lugs?
Two. The 2-T body is a two-port lug, so you can terminate two conductors at a single lug position, each under its own set screw. If you only need one conductor per terminal, you are paying for a port you will not use.
5) What is the voltage rating on the NSi 2-T lug connector?
600 volts. That covers standard 120/208, 277/480 and 600-volt panelboard, switchboard and feeder terminations. It is not a medium-voltage lug.
6) Will an aluminum lug corrode where it bolts to a copper bus?
The 2-T lug is machined from 6061T-6 aluminum alloy and electro-tin plated. The tin plating is what puts a compatible, low-resistance surface between the aluminum body and a copper bus or conductor, and it is also why the lug is UL rated for copper as well as aluminum.
7) Set-screw lug or compression lug for a panelboard feeder termination?
Set screw, like the NSi 2-T, needs only a hex driver and a torque wrench, goes in on site, and comes apart later. Compression needs a hydraulic or battery crimper and the matching die, and it is permanent. For panelboard and switchboard terminations where an electrician may need to reconfigure, the set-screw lug is the usual call; for high-vibration or permanent service gear, crews often specify compression.
8) Can these set-screw lugs be reused if I have to re-pull or re-terminate a circuit?
Yes. A set-screw lug is mechanical rather than crimped, so the conductor backs out and a new one goes in without cutting the lug off the bus. That is the practical advantage over a compression lug on retrofit and renovation work where circuits get moved.
