NSi IPLD3/0-3C – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use the NSi Polaris Vision Tap insulated connector outdoors or in a wet pull box?
No. The Polaris Vision Tap insulated multi-tap connector is cULus Listed for dry locations only. Keep it indoors, in dry panelboards, gutters and enclosures. For a wet or damp location tap you need a connector listed for that environment, not this one.
2) What wire sizes and port counts does the NSi Vision Tap dual-sided entry connector come in?
Four configurations: 250 MCM to 6 AWG in a 3 port (IPLD250-3C) and a 4 port (IPLD250-4C), 3/0 to 6 AWG in a 3 port (IPLD3/0-3C), and 500 MCM to 4 AWG in a 3 port (IPLD500-3C). Pick by the largest conductor you are landing plus the number of taps you need off the run. Note the 500 MCM body bottoms out at 4 AWG, so if you have a 6 AWG tap, go with the 250 MCM or 3/0 body.
3) I need four conductors landed on one tap block. Which NSi Vision Tap part do I order?
Order the IPLD250-4C, the 4 port version, rated 250 MCM down to 6 AWG. The other three Vision Tap DSE configurations are 3 port only, so if you need a fourth conductor on the same block that is the one part number that covers it.
4) Is this connector rated for 480V three-phase feeder taps?
Yes. The Vision Tap insulated multi-tap connector carries a 600V rating, which covers 480Y/277V and 208Y/120V distribution work. It is also rated to 90 degrees C, so it keeps up with 90 degree C conductor insulation on continuous loads.
5) Will the NSi Polaris Vision Tap accept aluminum conductors or only copper?
The published wire-type rating on the Vision Tap is Class B and Class C stranded conductors. Match your conductor class to that before landing it; solid or compact-class conductors outside B/C are not covered by the rating.
6) Why is the body clear instead of black, and does that affect the install?
The housing is clear Plastisol, which is the whole point of the Vision Tap name: you can see each conductor fully seated under the set screw before you energize. That matters on an inspection-heavy job, where a wire that stopped short of the port is otherwise invisible once the cover goes on. The insulation itself is the same durable Plastisol used across the Polaris insulated line.
7) What does dual-sided entry mean on a multi-tap connector, and when should I choose it over a single-sided one?
Dual-sided entry (DSE) means conductors can come in from either end of the block rather than all from one face. That is what you want when the feeder enters a gutter or panel from one direction and the taps run the other way, or when you are working in a tight can and cannot bend every conductor to the same side. If all your wires arrive from the same direction with room to dress them, a single-sided body is simpler.
8) Can I use this connector to tap a service entrance or feeder in a panelboard?
That is exactly what it is built for: wire termination and tap-off on feeder and branch circuits, panelboard and service entrance landings, in commercial and industrial distribution. The one limit is the environment, dry locations only, so an indoor panel or gutter is fine and an outdoor trough is not.
