Metallics SFLN125 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What trade size conduit does the Metallics SFLN125 lock nut fit?
The SFLN125 is a 1-1/4 inch conduit lock nut, so it threads onto 1-1/4 trade size rigid or IMC conduit and onto 1-1/4 threaded fittings and hubs. Trade size is the controlling number here, not a measured diameter.
2) Are Metallics SFLN125 conduit lock nuts Buy American or ARRA compliant for a government job?
No. The SFLN125 is not Buy American compliant and not ARRA compliant, with country of origin listed as multiple. If your specification carries a domestic sourcing requirement, these will not satisfy it and you need a domestically produced lock nut instead.
3) Are the Metallics SFLN125 lock nuts steel or zinc?
Both, in effect. The nut body is steel with a zinc finish, which is the standard plated steel lock nut used for dry indoor panel and box terminations. For wet, corrosive, or washdown areas, a corrosion resistant material is the better call.
4) How many 1-1/4 conduit lock nuts come in a Metallics SFLN125 jar?
They ship in a jar with a 50 piece minimum, sold each, so one jar covers 50 terminations. For a panel changeout where every conduit entry needs a nut inside and out, that is 25 entries per jar.
5) Do I order one lock nut or two per conduit entry into a box?
Two if you are clamping through a knockout: one SFLN125 outside and one inside the enclosure, tightened against the sheet metal to lock the conduit and bond the connection. One is enough when you are only backing up a threaded hub or a fitting that already has a shoulder.
6) Will Metallics SFLN125 lock nuts work on plumbing and HVAC jobs, or electrical only?
The field application covers electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work. The thread is a conduit thread, so on mechanical jobs it is for securing conduit and threaded fittings running with that work, not for water or gas piping joints.
7) How much does a jar of Metallics SFLN125 1-1/4 lock nuts weigh and how big is the container?
A jar runs 2.01 lbs, with container dimensions of 5.75 x 3.5 x 3.5 inches. Light enough to keep several sizes on the van without filling a bin.
