NUVO Lighting TH301 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What bulb does the NUVO TH301 track head take, and is one included?
The TH301 gimbal ring track head takes a single PAR30 lamp with an E26 medium screw base, rated up to 75W at 120V. No bulb ships with it, so order lamps separately. If you want dimming, that comes from the lamp you choose, not the head itself.
2) Can I use an LED PAR30 in the NUVO TH301 instead of an incandescent?
Yes. The socket is a standard E26 medium base sized for a PAR30 lamp on a 120V circuit, so any PAR30 LED with a medium base fits. The 75W figure is the fixture's maximum load, and an LED PAR30 draws well under that. Whether it dims depends on the lamp and the driver in it, since the head has no dimming of its own.
3) Is the NUVO TH301 track head rated for damp or wet locations like a covered patio or bathroom shower?
No. The TH301 is rated for dry locations and indoor use only. Keep it out of showers, covered exterior soffits, walk-in coolers, and any area subject to condensation. For a canopy or bathroom wet zone you need a fixture carrying a damp or wet location listing. The TH301 is cETLus safety listed for its intended dry indoor application.
4) How far does the NUVO TH301 track head hang below the track, and how much room does it need to aim?
Figure 9.38 inches of extension from the mounting point, with the head body measuring 4 inches wide by 4 inches high. That extension is what matters in a corridor or retail bay with low ceilings or where a swinging door or shelving unit passes underneath. The gimbal ring lets you rotate and tilt the lamp to aim it after the head is on the track, so plan clearance for the full arc of the PAR30 lamp.
5) What finish does the NUVO TH301 come in if I need to match existing track heads?
Brushed nickel is the only finish the TH301 is built in, so it will match brushed nickel track and heads already in the space. The body is glass and metal construction. If your existing run is white, black, or bronze track, the TH301 will read as a different finish on the ceiling.
6) How is the NUVO TH301 mounted, and how many can I run on one circuit?
It is a ceiling-mount track head, meant to clip onto a track run rather than mount to a junction box on its own. Each head is a single-lamp unit at 120V with a 75W maximum, so the total load on a circuit is driven by how many heads you hang and what lamps you use. Weight is minimal at 0.74 lbs per head. NUVO publishes an installation instruction sheet for the TH301 that covers the mounting sequence.
7) Is the NUVO TH301 a fixed downlight or can the beam be aimed at artwork and displays?
It aims. The gimbal ring construction lets the PAR30 lamp rotate and tilt, which is what you want over retail merchandise, gallery walls, or a hotel lobby display where the aim gets adjusted after the fact. A fixed-position head would lock you into whatever the layout was at rough-in. Beam spread itself is a function of the PAR30 lamp you install, since no bulb ships with the head.
8) Can I put a 90W or 120W PAR lamp in the NUVO TH301 for more light?
No. 75W at 120V is the fixture maximum, and overlamping a track head risks heat damage to the socket and the track connector. If you need more output than a 75W incandescent PAR30 gives you, go to an LED PAR30 instead, which will deliver far more lumens per watt while staying under the rated load.
