1) Can I use a 12-10 AWG fork terminal on 14 or 16 gauge wire?
No. The RC2203ML barrel is built for 12 and 10 AWG, and a 14 or 16 gauge conductor will not fill it, so the crimp will not hold mechanically or electrically even if it looks closed. Step down to a 16-14 AWG terminal, normally color coded blue, for those conductors.
2) What screw size does the RC2203ML locking fork terminal fit?
It is a No. 6 stud terminal, so it slips over a #6 screw or terminal-block stud. On a larger stud, say a #8 or #10, the fork tongue will not seat and you need a bigger terminal instead.
3) Does the RC2203ML come loose or on a reel for a crimping machine?
These are reel-mounted terminals, wound left-hand, for feeding an automatic or semi-automatic bench crimper. If you are crimping by hand with a standard hand tool, loose-piece terminals are the easier buy; the reel form only pays off on a machine set up for left-feed strip.
4) What is the difference between a locking fork terminal and a plain spade terminal?
A locking fork has turned-up tangs at the tips of the tongue that catch under the screw head, so the terminal cannot slide out sideways if the screw loosens. A plain spade will walk out from under a backed-off screw. The RC2203ML is the locking style, which is why it gets used on vibrating equipment and on terminal strips that get serviced repeatedly. A ring terminal is still more secure, but it requires taking the screw all the way out to land the wire.
