1) Can the strainer cover be removed on the Oatey 43561 for cleanout?
No. It's a 1-piece design that prevents the cover from being removed. For tenant spaces or public restrooms where you don't want the grate walking off, that's the point of it; if you need rodding access through the grate, you want a removable-strainer drain instead.
2) Is this Oatey snap-in drain suitable for a shower or a tiled floor with a waterproofing membrane?
No. The 43561 is designed for drainage in areas that don't require a waterproofing membrane. It has no clamping ring or membrane flange, so keep it to utility rooms, mechanical spaces, garages and similar bare-slab drainage. A membrane installation needs a clamping-ring shower drain.
3) Can the Oatey 2 in. snap-in drain be solvent welded, or does it only press in?
Both. It can be inserted (snapped) into 2 inch PVC Sch. 40 DWV pipe for a friction fit, or solvent welded in with standard PVC cement if you want it permanent. Being PVC, it takes ordinary PVC primer and cement.
4) Can I use the Oatey 43561 as a vent stack or air inlet strainer instead of a floor drain?
Yes. Besides floor drainage, it works as a vent stack terminal strainer or an air inlet strainer on 2 inch PVC DWV, keeping debris and nesting out of an open pipe.
5) Do I still need a trap with the Oatey 43561 snap-in drain?
Yes. The 43561 is a strainer and drain body only, with no integral trap. It snaps or solvent welds into the 2 inch PVC Sch. 40 DWV pipe, and the P-trap and any trap primer connection are separate below it.
