No fasteners are included. The 33923 ships as a bagged 10 foot roll of perforated strap and nothing else, so order your own screws or nails separately. The perforations accept common fastener sizes; pick the fastener for what you're anchoring into, whether that's wood joists, blocking, or masonry with the appropriate anchor.

Gauge is strap thickness, and the number runs backwards: 24 gauge is thicker and stiffer than 28 gauge. The Oatey 33923 is the 28 gauge version, the lighter of the two Oatey offers. 28 gauge is the usual pick for residential and light commercial drain, waste, vent and water lines where the strap is doing routine support work. Step up to 24 gauge when the run is heavier, the spacing between hangers is wider, or the pipe will carry real weight when full.

The galvanized coating on the 33923 strap is what makes it suitable for damp, unconditioned spaces like crawlspaces, basements and attics, where bare steel would rust out. It's a metal strap through and through, so it holds up better than plastic banding near heat sources. For genuinely wet or corrosive locations, exterior exposure or chemical waste lines, a copper or stainless hanger is the better call.
