It goes inside 4 inch pipe and the gasket expands to seal in service weight, extra heavy weight, or no-hub cast iron. That is the point of the design: you don't have to identify the pipe class before you order. The seal is a gasket connection, not caulk and lead, so there's no pouring involved.

That's exactly what the Oatey 43653 is for. It replaces broken cast iron toilet flanges by setting inside the existing 4 inch pipe and expanding a gasket to seal, so the old pipe stays in the floor. No cutting, no torch, no lead and oakum.

No. The sleeve is not included with the 43653 and has to be ordered separately. Worth catching before the truck leaves the shop, because without it the repair stops.

No tools needed for the flange itself. The 43653 installs by hand, twisting to expand the gasket against the inside wall of the 4 inch pipe. You'll still need your closet bolts, wax or foam seal, and whatever anchors you use into the subfloor.

Straight. The 43653 sets the closet opening directly over the pipe centerline, so if your rough-in is off and you were counting on an offset flange to shift the bowl, this isn't the part. You'd want an offset closet flange instead.

The 43653 body is cast iron, black finish, which is what most spec writers and maintenance shops want under a commercial or institutional water closet where the fixture gets rocked and the flange takes abuse. It also matches the existing cast iron system it's repairing. The unit runs about 3.7 lbs, so it has real mass to it compared with a PVC flange.

The 43653 uses a smooth unrestricted flow design, so even though it sets inside the 4 inch pipe it isn't meant to choke the waste line. That matters on 1.28 gpf and 1.6 gpf fixtures where you want every bit of carry.
