OATEY 34080 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a tub box used for in a concrete slab?
The Oatey 34080 tub box forms a clean cavity in a concrete slab so the bathtub trap can be connected to the drain system afterward. It is set before the pour and also works in wood floors and multi-story flooring, giving you access to the bathtub plumbing instead of burying it in concrete.
2) Will the Oatey 34080 tub box accept a 2 inch Schedule 40 drain?
Yes. The 34080 has a built-in cut-out sized for drain pipe up to 2 inch Schedule 40, which covers the standard 1-1/2 and 2 inch tub waste sizes. It also has knockouts so you can run pipe through the box where you need it.
3) How many tub boxes come in the Oatey 34080 pack?
The 34080 is sold as a 12 pair pack, so it is a bulk carton rather than a single box. Plumbers roughing in a multi-unit or tract job buy it this way; if you only need one opening, you are buying eleven spares.
4) What material is the Oatey tub box made from, and will it hold up under a concrete pour?
It is molded from high impact polystyrene, which is why it holds its shape against wet concrete and stands up to job site handling. It is a forming and access box, not a structural or load-bearing component.
5) What part number should I order for the Oatey standard tub box 12 pair carton?
Order Oatey 34080. That MPN is the standard tub box supplied as a 12 pair carton, UPC 038753340807.
6) What color is the Oatey 34080 tub box?
Black. That is the only color offered on the 34080, and it is the standard look for a rough-in component that gets covered by the tub deck or access panel anyway.
