Weight is the other limit: 60 lb per door. A 1-3/8 inch solid-core slab in a wide closet opening can pass that, so check the slab weight before you commit.

One kit hangs two doors, one bypass pair. It ships with a single steel track and four dial-adjust hangers, two per door. If you are doing a triple-bypass or a second closet, you buy a second kit.

The kit covers the hanging: steel track, four dial-adjust hangers, and the mounting hardware. What it does not include is anything at the floor or the face of the door. Budget separately for a floor guide to keep the panel bottoms from swinging, pulls or finger pulls, and the doors themselves. Order the track length to match the opening: 58.5, 70.5 or 93.5 inches.

The dial-adjust hangers give 5/16 inch of vertical adjustment, so you can level a door and even out the reveal at the head without pulling the track down. That range covers a normal out-of-level header. If your opening is off by more than 5/16 inch, shim the track when you mount it rather than trying to take it all out at the hanger.

Overhead, concealed. The steel track fastens to the underside of the header inside the opening, so once the doors are hung the track is hidden behind them rather than exposed on the wall face. Bypass is the right call when the doors have to stay inside the opening. Two panels ride on one overhead track and slide past each other, so you never gain more than half the opening clear at a time, but you use no wall space at all. A barn door rail needs a clear stretch of wall beside the opening for the slab to park on and leaves the hardware exposed. For a standard reach-in closet with a wall or corner on both sides, the BYST-500 bypass kit is what fits; for a single wide slab over a pass-through with wall to spare, go barn door.

It is rated commercial, and the track and hardware are steel rather than extruded aluminum or plastic, which is what holds up in a rental where doors get yanked. Capacity is 60 lb per door. The BYST-500 kit is the same regardless of which side the front panel sits on, because both doors ride the same overhead track and the four dial-adjust hangers are interchangeable between panels. You decide front and back at install by which door you hang on the outer channel. Reversing it later is a matter of rehanging the two slabs, not reordering parts.
