1) Is a nylon wall plate tough enough for a hospital corridor or a school?
The TradeMaster TP plate is molded of self-extinguishing nylon at a .070 inch nominal thickness, which is why it is specified for hospital, industrial, and institutional high-abuse locations. Nylon at that thickness resists the cracking and warping that thin thermoplastic plates show after a few years of cart strikes and overtightened screws. It is also cULus Listed.
2) Will the TP toggle plate fit decorator or rocker style switches?
No. The TradeMaster TP3-I and TP4-I are cut with toggle openings only, sized for standard toggle switches. Decorator, rocker, and GFCI style devices need a decorator opening plate instead, so do not order these for a bank of paddle switches.
3) The box cutout is oversized and the TP plate still will not cover it. What should I use?
The Pass & Seymour TradeMaster TP series adds an extra 3/16 inch of width and height over Standard size plates, which covers most slightly ragged cutouts. For a cutout beyond that, the Mulberry 86871 is a jumbo oversize toggle switch wallplate in painted steel white from the 8687 series, which is a larger footprint than a standard plate. It covers one toggle opening, so a multi-gang bank would need one per opening.
4) How big is the 4-gang TradeMaster ivory toggle plate?
The TP4-I measures 8.375 in by 4.688 in with a 0.25 in depth. Lay that against your wall space before ordering a 4-gang: a bank of four toggles next to a door casing or an inside corner often will not take 8-3/8 inches of plate without trimming, in which case two separate boxes with a 3-gang TP3-I and a single plate is the cleaner solution.
5) Should I use a nylon plate or a metal one for a commercial switch bank?
